Okay. I’m here at Dscoop and I found the Highcon booth. And, lucky me, I found a printer who actually has a Highcon machine, William Lorenz from Boutwell, Boutwell?” Boutwell Owens.
Boutwell Owens. And, where are you located?” We’re in Pittsburgh, Massachusetts.
So, I honestly like almost, like dumbfounded. I love this stuff so much. First of all, why did you get a Highcon?” We got the Highcon? Well, we’re here at Dscoop, we’re an HP user, we have HP 30,000, and we knew with the advent of the work that we'd be adding with the HP that we would have a lot more short-run work than we already had. So, we have short-run folding cartons, and now we've created a lot of short-run, very creative work that only a machine like the Highcon can do.
Right. And, which one do you have actually?” We have the Euclid II S.
Okay. And what does that do? Because, I know that these machines do multiple things in the different versions of them.” Absolutely. So, this is a machine that will run a full 2840 sheet, but it also has the full stripping on it. So, all of the internal waste that you might see, all of that is removed through the machine.
Wait. How?” So, this is — It actually has – If it won't fall out, you can use – They have brushers, top and bottom on the machine that knock out all the waste. So, none of this is removed by hand. It comes out of the machine ready to go.
That’s amazing. So, that takes away the human labor which usually adds to the cost of the job. You also have the folding and creasing abilities, is that correct?” Yes, we do.
And, you actually did one of the samples here, right?” One of these we did. Yes.
So, they designed it. It comes in a full sheet, right?” It comes in a full printed sheet and we did all the cutting for them. Yes.
And, if they had multiple shapes, does that change anything you're doing as it's going through? Do you have to adjust anything?” Actually, not. No.
So, all of these could be completely unique?” Completely unique.
One or a million?” One or a million that all the cutting can be changed. If it was creasing, we have to make a setup change, but the cutting can be changed in every carton going through.
That’s amazing. So, basically with one machine, you hit the design people, you hit the packaging people.” Absolutely.
What else – What if you, not that you’re selling them and not that you want other people having them, but just because we love Highcon, what do you think -- If you were selling them, what would you say as a printer, the value proposition of these machines are?” Well, that’s actually pretty simple because that's why we got one. We are so much geared towards short-run work. We got to do the short-run work, we got to get it out fast. This just allowed us to do short-run, short –run creative work as well. So, now we’re doing both. We’re doing both and getting it out in a hurry.
And now, are you working with print buyers and designers helping them to design for – And, how are you showing me, I guess these samples to sell themselves?” We have to make these samples, show them to get people to think like this, because designers have been taught their whole life not to think like this, because you don't have a supplier that can do it. So, now you go the other way and try to teach them what you can.
And, it used to be ridiculously expensive. I’m not saying this doesn't add cost to the job, but you can change, and you can have individual unique die-cuts in your run and it doesn't change anything at that point.” Yes, ma’am. Yes, ma’am.
Incredible. How can people get in touch with you?” All you have to do is look for the boutwellowens.com. You'll find us. We have a couple facilities, southwest, northeast, and we'll be happy to help out.
Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it. Great work.” Great. Thank you.
