“I found GPA. I’m here with Mary Ann Geers from GPA Specialty Substrates Solutions.” Hi Deborah. How are you?
“Fantastic. The official substrate of the printerverse, I might add. Okay. Big news in GPA world, wide format paper. Let’s discuss that. Why wide format?” Well, we’ve always been in the specialty substrate business Deborah. And what is happening is, our customers, our commercial printing customers, we provide material for their sheet and offset press. And, their HP Indigo digital press, has asked us to come into the wide format arena. So, we have the same products across all three line, so if they’re producing a sign, for example, that’s small format, and then they need 5 or 10 that are 54 by 100, we’re going to have the exact same materials to provide for them.
“Right. How are they dabbling or do they purchase machines? Are they thinking about it? What are the kind of questions they’re coming to with?” So, we have some of our customers saying to us, ‘Hey GPA, we’re just now buying our equipment and we need some help. Can you come and help us understand the markets and the applications and come in into presentations?’ So, we’ve got that customer. And then, we’ve got our existing customers that we’ve worked with for a long time, that right now, may have 3 or 4 pieces of equipment. And, maybe they’re adding one of the new latex presses from HP or one of the new latex presses from AGFA and saying, ‘Hey, help us with substrates for this new press.’ So, we’re seeing both.
“And, what are the applications that you’re sort of championing at the moment?” We’ve got two kind of marketplaces. One is going to be the point of purchase or in-store media, where we’ve always played in the offset world. So, we have things like window cling vinyl. We’ve got backward sign material. We’ve got photographic material. We’ve got Tyvek. And, one of the big areas that we have that’s really exploding is in the wall covering, wall decorations, stores that want to put their own branding wallpaper up on the walls. So, that one arena. The other arena that were finding very, very interesting is in the photo-based market. So, we do a lot of work in the photo segment industry, and that’s its own completely different market with papers and canvass and silver substrates. Things that are used for photographic and high-end reproductions. So, a little of both.
“What kind of education are you providing to the community? I know that GPA is very big on education.” So, we’ve got a couple things. One, is we’re going to have a webinar coming up in December. I’ll be featured on that. We’re going to have a topic about wide format. So, that’s going to be one that we’re going to hit overall. The other is just our basic vertical marketing kits. So, this is something new for GPA, and what we’re doing is we’re crossing all three business segments in one kit. So, for example, crochery. We might have a crochery kit, and it may provide both wide format, some of our digital substrates, such as rigid vinyls and maybe paper, for things like postcards. So, you’ll see the vertical marketing kits. And then, just our standard presentations that we had, 8 ½ by 11s, that we not only talk about the features of the product, we talk about the applications, markets and then what they can do to expand it. But, we’re seeing from our commercial printers, buying those presses allow them to get into more unusual substrates. They print a lot easier on this and this is allowing them to expand what they’re offering their current customer base.
“Right. Absolutely. Can anybody get these samples from you?” Absolutely. There’s a couple of different ways. One is www.askgpa.com, we got a nice website there. You’ll see things up there. You’ll see the markets and we have a way that they can do that. The other would just be to give their local sales representative a call. And, one would be to get on our webinar which we’ll promote on both Twitter, Facebook, OurUniverse.com and our website.
“Just so you know, if you ever need GPA, you could always come to Print Media Center too because I have a hotline into GPA. We love them. Thank you so much. Before we sign off, can we talk a little bit, how was the show been for you, in general?” So, this is our first SGIA. It has been a great show. Not only are we seeing our current customers and telling them more about our wide format, but we’re meeting all types of new customers. And, Atlanta, although it’s been raining for five days, this has been a fantastic show for us, so we’ll be back.
“So, see you in Vegas next year, I guess.” Absolutely.
“Wonderful. Everyone could probably be here behind me. You’re booth’s getting a little crowded, so I’m going to let you go and thank you so much for your time.” Thanks Deborah.
