In this Print Sample TV edition, Pat McGrew meets up with Lindy Cook from Kodak. They are looking at the beautiful samples the new Kodak Ascend delivers. As Pat McGrew explains, the machine featured is not compared to almost anything else. It's a digital printer with built-in embellishment options that would generally take MORE machines to do, but it also excels as it can print on LONG and thick substrates. So this is not only for commercial print but even for packaging and indoor signage. New dawn, we dare to say!

In this interview with Stefan Hunkeler, we discuss the Hunkeler Innovationdays 2023. It takes place in beautiful Lucern in Switzerland, February 27th - March 2nd, 2023 - and we can't wait! Hunkeler Innovationdays has grown to become one of the most important events in the industry but had to postpone, like everybody else, because of the pandemic. Now it's the point of no return, and exhibitors and many customers are planning to attend the maybe only end-to-end event for digital print/finishing. INKISH will be covering Innovationdays intensively and will also talk to many of the vendors exhibiting before the event to encourage you to attend. Workflow/automation is becoming increasingly important in all segments of our industry. At PLASTGrommet's booth at PRINTING United, we got to talk to Rob Harris from CSI Printing & Graphics from the D.C. area. Harris speaks about his recent investment in PLASTGrommet and his expectations - great product - great customer!

Kongsberg Precision Cutting Systems acquired MultiCam recently, and at their huge booth at PRINTING United 2022, they showcase both Kongsberg and MultiCam products. In this film, we get a chance to learn from Router Product Manager Russel Boudria, who shows what's possible and explains the difference between the different MultiCam offerings! Tom Fitzgerald is responsible for Post Press Products for Koenig & Bauer North America, and for him and his company, PRINTING United has been very successful. In this film, we wrap up our experience from PRINTING United together with Ford Bowers, the CEO of PRINTING United Alliance. This was a very cool interview, person, and company - all three in one! At the Scodix booth, we got the chance to meet with President & CRO David Baird. His company has for years produced 'Save the Date' magnets - and we talk in the 100,000s per month. David Baird is an entrepreneur, so what's more natural than developing the concept - and voila - here you see the result of a lot of work involving vendors, paper merchants, and of course, the workflow enabling customers to order these very special sets of cards online.

The Scodix booth at PRINTING United was pretty busy during all show days. The interest in the new Scodix Ultra 6000 was immense, but it was also truly great meeting customer who utilizes the technology - some even further than the intentions of Scodix :-) Edmond Rassi is the owner of Trade Finisher in Houston and says that he wanted to extend his business with capabilities enabling customers. He also challenges brand owners as he educates designers and customers about the technology - driving more sales! 100% inspiration!

Koenig & Bauer is one of the world's oldest offset printing companies - and a market leader in many segments. In digital, Koenig & Bauer have followed a few different strategies, like partnering with HP to build technology for corrugated and Durst for folding cartons, along with their own development of the Rotajet. Stephen Kirk Sanker's role is Digital Printing Manager, and in this interview, he explains that Koenig & Bauer have a well-planned strategy for how Koenig & Bauer will get their share of the future market!

Steve Metcalf is a true entrepreneur and is now involved with AMP. AMP develops a software platform for connecting IoT sources to monitor production on a very fine level - all vendor-agnostic and using industry-standard protocols. Everybody knows Sabine Lenz from PaperSpecs. Known for high-quality inspiration and education - and as she says in this film, bridge designers with technology. We met at Scodix's booth at PRINTING United in Las Vegas. We agreed that Scodix had asked us to meet as we both have a passion for embellishment, quality, and everything technology does for designers. The new SHD (Smart High Definition) technology enables finer details and negative text on foil or down to 4.5pt size embellished. Super cool, and it was fun talking to Sabine!

We had hoped to see the new Ricoh Z75 at PRINTING United, but we got the second best, namely Mike Herold, Director of Global Marketing, AND some stunning print samples. In this film, we talk about the market. Though Herold doesn't say anything directly about this, I believe the quality of the range of substrates the Z75 can print on is a B2 format toner-based killer - or at least a very interesting consideration. Even though the quality is very high and with high densities, the operational cost of an inkjet machine is considered lower than a toner-based one. For the printers, of course, very good news! Looking forward to getting a chance to see the machine in action with a PSP. I like this interview, so dig in!

Seeing is believing, and at the Kongsberg/MultiCam booth at PRINTING United, Editor Morten B. Reitoft talks with Director of MultiCam Applications Julio Pierre. How cutters and routers can produce excellent products and applications continues to amaze. Julio Pierre explains that his job is to help MultiCam customers if they have challenges finding the right tools for specific applications to ensure the end-customers product. The diversity and possibilities with these machines are incredible, but see for yourself!

We wanted to create a new fun award that awards a product/technology/application picked by the Intergalactic Ambassador to the Printerverse, Deborah Corn. Walking a tradeshow takes time, and finding a thing that stands out isn't always easy. However, W+D's new solution for creating creative and unique mailing solutions was picked for the opportunities it gives marketers to communicate and engage. The INKISH team salutes the pick, as it technically is a super interesting product, and as Andrew Schipke told us later, sales have already started at PRINTING United - good work!

Worth mentioning when reporting from PRINTING United is, of course, the overwhelming number of attendees. Also worth mentioning is the many awards given to products and technologies. One of the awarded products was Ricoh's Supervisor/Process Director software, enabling printing companies to monitor their entire production with a click of a button. Adding devices is easily done by entering the device's IP address; voila, you are connected. Process Director takes this further, as Kevin Wake explains and shows. With Process Director, the data can be organized into logical groups, so production is now filtered into data per employee, per production unit, per machine, and almost everything. Nice product, and though developed by Ricoh entirely vendor agnostic.

He was happy. He was really, really happy, and for good reasons. Donald Droppo Jr. was one of the first US Scodix S75 customers years back, and here at PRINTING United 2022, he is again becoming a 'first.' Donald Droppo Jr. is the President and CEO of Sandy Hook-based Curtis Packaging - a company with historical roots in packaging back in 1845. The new Scodix Ultra 6000 offers many new technologies, and in this film, we talk about equipment, market, quality, and opportunities - great things to learn from. I would like to share one takeaway: Donald Droppo Jr. expects to use the Ultra 6000 in print runs up to 25,000 sheets, but watch, listen, and learn!

Tom Peire is the CEO of the Belgium-based company Four Pees. The company has specialized in implementation, and what the company has learned during the pandemic is that implementation work CAN be done remotely and therefore opens up a global market. At PRINTING United, CEO Tom Peire tell how important the implementation process is as it opens up for further automation using software PSPs often have already. Interesting!

Mike King is born into the graphics arts industry, working with his father repairing printing machines. Soon he realized his engineering talent and started refining cold foiling - which was invented a few years earlier in the UK. Today Mike King and Eagle Systems are among the absolute leaders in the industry and keep innovating and refining foiling. Mike King is, by all means, fascinating, and I am sure you will enjoy this film!
