At our great friends from Tecnau''s booth, we met with Chris Raney, VP of Heidelberg USA - and he is telling us about the collaboration between Tecnau and Heidelberg - and demonstrated at the booth with an integrated Stahlfolder. Raney, however, explains that the integration now can be with pretty much any Stahl product. It is interesting to see how partnerships in the industry keep developing.

It's almost become one of the things we do when we meet with Pete Dolfis from Tecnau - having a walkthrough of the technology - and the PRINTING United 2023 edition is no exception. That gives you, dear viewer, a great understanding of the technology and also, in this case, a chat about having integration partners. Three solutions are presented - enjoy!

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from Ko...

Komori is celebrating its centennial this year—a monumental achievement! It's difficult for me to recall events from a decade ago, let alone a century. Many companies in the industry are marking their 100th anniversaries this year. Last year was significant, but this year stands out because many companies we discuss today, including Komori, are turning a century old. Despite this, our industry feels as vibrant as ever. Reporting live from Printing United at Komori's booth, there's a palpable blend of history and present-day innovation. Remember when MBO was acquired by Komori a few years ago? Here, you can witness the synergy of the post-press alliance—finishing partners coming together to offer comprehensive solutions. For instance, a setup combines MBO's folding capabilities with Hooner's stitching, topped off by the impressive CoboStack robot that perfectly arranges finished products on a pallet. Komori's Lithrone printing machines, used by thousands worldwide, remain at the forefront of technology, continually pushing the envelope in automation. A recurring theme at trade shows recently, including this year, is the emphasis on automation. It's about streamlining workflows, enhancing efficiency, and cutting costs. However, post-COVID, automation also addresses the challenge of finding skilled labor. It's fascinating how the narrative has shifted. As I ponder the future, I can only imagine what the 103rd edition of Printing United might showcase. Perhaps Komori will still be at the forefront? What will production look like then? The possibilities are thrilling. This is Morten Reitoft from INKISH TV, signing off from Printing United in Atlanta.

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from Mü...

Morten here from INKISH, reporting from Printing United in Atlanta. If you notice the distinct blue-purple hue, you'll recognize I'm at the Müller Martini booth, a signature color of this Swiss brand. Not far from them in Switzerland is Hunkler, another exceptional company. While Hunkler specializes in digital paper finishing, Müller Martini excels in book finishing and saddle stitch products, and they're renowned in their field. Although Müller Martini was once a larger company, it's now more streamlined, profitable, and innovative. What's intriguing is their evolution from a leader in the offset realm to a significant player in the digital world, meeting its unique demands. Case in point: their variable binding equipment. Many print companies now use their machinery for 'books of one'. A notable example is Linemark in Maryland, which efficiently handles thousands of such orders daily. The booth is quiet as they're setting up for a presentation. Even though the equipment isn't running now, it's a testament to the power of trade shows like this. Attendees can see, touch, and discuss these machines with experts.

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from St...

Morten from INKISH TV here, continuing my coverage from Printing United in Atlanta. While I'm still at the Standard Finishing booth, I've moved to spotlight a different setup: the combination of Hunkler and Horizon, showcasing saddle-stitched products. A surprising trend in the industry is the growth in book production. One might assume a shift towards e-books, but a Stockholm conference enlightened me on an emerging perspective. Publishers recognize the sentimental value of books as gifts – after all, who would prefer a QR code over a tangible, beautiful book? Presented here is a glimpse into a modern book factory. The setup is geared towards "books of one" production, creating book blocks for both softcover and later-case bound editions. The process includes paper feeding, collating, and PUR binding, making it highly adaptable. Represented by Standard Finishing in North America, Horizon offers this innovative technology that caters to the demand for individualized high-quality books. For more insights, visit INKISH TV, where we've featured numerous companies across Europe and America utilizing this technology. Reporting from the Standard Finishing booth, this is Morten Reitoft for INKISH TV.

Printing United 2023 · Elias Jo · CEO · ...

Elias Jo is the CEO of Entourage Yearbooks, and we actually had the pleasure of filming him back at the very first PRINTING United in 2019, Dallas. Now we meet again, and in this film, we talk about how SpencerMetrics helps Entourage Yearbooks with a much better overview of the production and how employees perform differently, so SpencerMetrics will also be used as an asset in compensation plans, etc. Learning how software like SpencerMetrics can support different objectives is super interesting. In the film's first 4-5 minutes, Elias Jo and editor Morten B. Reitoft talk about the yearbook market, and Elias Jo says that he has about 20-30% of the 1 billion USD market - needs to clarify that he talks about 20-30% of the digital printed yearbook market - just to be aligned!

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from St...

I'm Morten from INKISH TV, currently at Printing United in Atlanta, standing in front of Standard Finishings' impressive booth. When attending trade shows, especially in the U.S., where most only last three days, it's not expected to see a wealth of equipment. However, Printing United, since its inception in Dallas in 2019, has been growing in terms of equipment showcased. The Las Vegas edition last year had more, but this year in Atlanta, there's more equipment than any previous Printing United event. Standard Finishings, which represents Hunkeler and Horizon, is no exception. Hunkler and Horizon offer turnkey solutions, covering everything from paper processing to finishing. Companies like Standard Finishings work closely with print OEMs. After all, it's almost impossible to think about digital printing without considering the necessary finishing equipment, whether nearline, online, or offline. This largely depends on the type of applications, the amount of printing equipment, and the product range. Behind me is a prime example of this integrated approach: an unwinder that processes printed rolls into sheets, which feeds into the Horizon binder. The result is a neatly saddle-stitched product ready for dispatch. In the industry, both Hunkeler and Horizon hold strong positions. And for those in the North American market looking to dive deeper, Standard Finishings is the go-to partner. Signing off from INKISH TV, this is Morten.

Printing United 2023 · Andrew Gunn · VP ...

We promised to ask Xerox if they are leaving the professional production space after many speculations - and the answer from VP Global Production Marketing, Andrew Gunn, gave us a loud and clear 'no' to this question. With a renewed agreement with Fujifilm about developing new products, this is at least not something to be worried about now. What is MORE interesting, however, is Xerox's focus on marketing automation, AI, and many more things that, in our view, add value for Xerox customers but eventually free Xerox from specific hardware platforms. Like HP's PrintOS can be used with other brands, so is it for Xerox - if we understand Gunn correctly - but listen to Andrew Gunn and judge yourself. To us, great and encouraging statements from Xerox.

In this film, we speak with Stephen Miller, Xerox's Chief Digital Officer, about AI in general and AI, specifically how Xerox will use it to improve customers' profitability, uptime, etc. It was super nice talking to Stephen Miller, and maybe you can learn something as well?

WARNING - this is a LONG interview/walkthrough. It is a decision to edit or to cut interviews into shorter sections. Still, sometimes it also makes sense to learn about the business opportunity, learn the technology, see the samples, and understand the entire ecosystem. Michael Aumann from KURZ has been on INKISH before, but I believe it's the first time we've learned so much in one go - and you know - almost 25 minutes fly by in good company - enjoy!

Can you imagine how challenging it must be to produce a photobook? One thing is printing and binding a photo book, and yes, it is a high-margin product, but another is to produce each book simply, with a high margin, and with as few touch-points as possible. This is what Max Alewel does with his Marathon Press. Print, binding, spiced up with SpencerMetrics, and voila - that's what you've got. Enjoy the film.

How ‘white’ can make embelli...

At the HP #PrintAhead Open House in Alpharetta, we met with Co-founder and Director of Sales and Marketing Mark Geeves to learn what Color-Logic does. More than 100 devices are now supported by the tools that Color-Logic has developed for designers, and the only thing you need to make stunning effects using metallic foils is a printer able to print white. I am amazed about the tools that help designers and printers get more out of current investments.

HP software, a strong starting point · ...

At the HP Open House #PrintAhead event, INKISH met with Category Manager PrintOS Bob Raus. HP announced the 'Automation Center' upgrade to its PrintOS, and we discussed that. Still, Bob Raus also speaks about the market, how software enables printers to do more with their hardware investments, and even how HP allows many software services to be used on other than HP hardware. Conclusion - This is a super interesting conversation, and for PSPs and Converters, it is important to learn that software is as much of a game-changer as the hardware we all fall so easily in love with. Thanks to Bob Raus for a very open-minded and interesting chat - thank you!

With Brilliant Ink, faster machines, and better drying, Senior Global Market Development Manager Marc Johnson sees HP as a front runner - and obviously both happy and proud about the milestones HP and its customers have achieved - very nice interview, enjoy!

MBO did what we liked the most - involve customers showing MBO Cobo-stacks cobots at work at customer Kohlhammer. It's super interesting to see, and as it's not a DEMO but real live production, you see the changeover, how little operator invention is needed to serve four folding lines. Afterward, Dietmar Schrimm gives an overview of the technology, and we talk about why some of the digital solutions are very popular in the US and not so much in Europe - we believe it's mainly because people don't know about the opportunities and mainly know MBO for its folders. But an interest Get Work Done session - we are sure you will like!
