It’s our First day at the Spanish C!Print exhibition held in Madrid, so – what to expect? C!Print in Madrid is back this year, but in a different and even more prestigious location, this being the famous IFEMA exhibition centre (Fair Institution of Madrid). INKISH will cover the expo in a bi-lingual format, so Spanish and English mixed and, of course, with subtitles. As mentioned a couple of times, CERM did some super nice panel debates from their booth, and James Brennan was in a panel with Stuart Morrison from Screen and Dennish Ebeltoft from Springfield. It is great to hear how solutions are actually integrated.

Theurer.com is one of many exhibitors at LabelExpo Europe 2023, and though everybody is suffering from the heat, the mood is high. Managing Director Tobias Theurer finds time to talk to INKISH and gives us some background of the company, but also how the MIS/ERP solution has developed from being 'only' an invoicing and quotation system to a system able to so much more - integration, workflow, imposition, and with growth and presence in many markets Theurer.com predicts a bright future - we were happy to finally catch up with Theurer in person, super nice :-)

At the CERM booth, many panel debates took place. Unfortunately, we could only cover a few, and one of them was with Dennis Ebeltoft from Springfield. In that same session, Stuart Morrison from Screen Europe attended and talked about how Screen has also developed interfacing to solutions like ABG and, in this case, CERM. With its 350UV, Screen has become a well-known and well-used inkjet solution in the label industry, and when you hear about the collaborations, it only seems natural. Dig in!

CERM's booth at LabelExpo was busy. Not only with demos and meetings, but a considerable percentage of the booth was reserved for panel debates where attendees could listen to different customers' stories about CERM. Editor Morten B. Reitoft attended one with Marco Oude Nijeweme from the Dutch label printer Eshuis and got the chance to talk to him after the debate. In this session, the topic was planning. Nijeweme explained how CERM helps them optimize job planning and even how scheduled maintenance and rush jobs can add to the planning, which dynamically changes to realities and SLAs. Interesting story to learn from.

Jordi Quera, VP of sales and marketing at Zonten Europe, discusses why semi-rotary offset technology can compete with digital in the short run and its increasing popularity in the European market.

Christoph Gamper, CEO of DURST Group, is always interesting to speak to. In this interview from LabelExpo Europe 2023, we talk about Hawkeye - Durst's AI technology and how LabelExpo is different from a show like drupa. When we talk to Gamper, he is one of the few CEOs who have no fear of discussing issues like the value of a trade show or the organizer's flaws. Liberating is the word that comes to mind. Label Expo Brussels DID deliver on all parameters (except internet speed and temperature). Still, a very good show, and here in the morning of Day 2, James Quirk and Morten B. Reitoft share their views on the first day and expectations for the third. INKISH will only cover two days here, but still, that gives you thirty interviews - almost all online as you read this!

IST Metz sells UV-curring for other OEMs and offers customers retrofitting opportunities, not only retrofitting of LED-UV in IST's mercury housings but even competitors' housings, making it extremely easy for customers to choose IST. Volker Selg is good at explaining how LED-UV works and what advantages it gives the customers - one to see.

The new MPrint C4 Compact sounds almost like the name of a new car, but it's not. The C4 Compact is a UV-coated 4-color printing device that can be fitted onto any existing Flexopress, essentially turning the Flexopress into a hybrid machine. Super nice idea that should be THE option many are looking for. Mprint is a company owned by Kurz, and they develop some pretty nice technology. A small four-color label printer was presented when we met with Achim Herzog at the IST UV-Days just a few months ago. Still, at LabelExpo, they introduced the 4C Compact, which, in our opinion, probably should have won the prize for best new business idea! Many excellent digital print bars/print heads are mounted on flexo presses. Still, with the Mprint 4C Compact, Mprint has developed a 4-color printer that can be mounted on almost any flexo press and essentially turn the machine into a flexo press with digital printing capabilities. In this interview, Global Director - Digital Embellishment Solutions, Michael Aumann, explains the three types of digital embellishment technologies that today exist and how these are used based on application. We also talk about sustainability and many more interesting things - but dig in, we are certain you will like this! Kurz has built a super nice booth at LabelExpo, where they show both technology and applications. In the interview, we learn more about whether metalization is sustainable and how Kurz addresses sustainability both in the production and in the finished products. We also get a chance to learn about the technologies Kurz supplies and, therefore, better understand when to use which technology. Infigo web-to-print has been around for some time; during the past years, however, we have seen them at more and more tradeshows worldwide, and the company is on an exciting journey. At LabelExpo, they revealed their latest update, a web-to-label with two-way communication to CERM. In this interview, Alex Bowell explains the advantages for the customers - and how Infigo visited customers and had beta customers for a long time to understand the label segment and create a web-to-label solution to be the best in the market. Super interesting to hear, and some of the features are super cool!

Dennis Ebeltoft participated in one of several CERM pane debates during LabelExpo. His company, Springfield, decided years ago to be a 100% digital label Converter, and he speaks about how they have built up workflow around CERM, ABG, Screen, and ESKO. Ebeltoft also explains how they started with several Indigo's and how moving to inkjet with the Screen 350UV and an integrated ABG finishing line today allows the company to operate print and finishing with only one operator.
