Every day at 11.00 a speaker is presented on the stage. Today, September 27th, 2022, it was Dr. Johannes Warther from Apenberg & Partners. The company is a consultancy company and has specialized in consulting printing companies. Among the topics were acquisitions and consolidations - which many find interesting in these challenging times! The presentation is done in both German and English at the same time!

Damien Hachet is asked the impossible question - print or finishing first? Of course, referring to the name of the Horizon Finishing First event also puts Hachet in a "difficult" situation as he represents Ricoh Europe. German language The Horizon Finishing First event is first and foremost about networking. It is also about technology, but even more important is, of course, the customers attending the event. One is Johanna Hornung, Head of Print Product at Celebrate. At the Horizon Finishing First event, Johanna Hornung is impressed by the robot arms but is seriously considering investing in the BQ-series binding equipment. The BQ500 is shown at the event with a Tecnau roll-based feeder, robots handling both loading book blocks and packing the finished books. New is the ability to use the BQ-series to create book blocks for hard cover production with end-papers, gaze, variable size, and number of pages - impressive technology.

Business goes well in Switzerland, according to CEO Roland Eicher. With his company placed in beautiful Lucern, he has changed his business from a purely offset printing company to an almost entirely digital printing company today. Besides print and binding for his customers, Eicher Druck also operates as a binding partner for several other Swiss companies. Roland Eicher is at The Finishing First event to learn and invest in new technology - and the deal has been signed - a new Horizon Stitchliner MK III is on its way to Switzerland!

The first point on the agenda today, Tuesday, September 27th, at the Horizon Finishing First event is the welcoming by Managing Director Timm Edelhoff. Timm Edelhoff gave great examples of how technology evolves over time and across industries, and of course, this is something the printing industry needs to understand and embrace. I met Peeter Adamson for the first time years ago in the Estonian city Tartu. An old and nice city with a bar in one of the oldest and largest gun-powder storage buildings from ancient times, but of course, this has nothing to do with today's interview :-) Peeter Adamson is the CEO and owner of the printing company Paar and decided to go to the Horizon Finishing First event in Quickborn to check out a new folding machine. Adamson, however, says that he is replacing a twelve years old machine and believe that the challenging time is a great time to invest in new technology. Sven Binder was featured in a film INKISH did from the Germany photobook/greeting card printer Send Moments. See the link below. Binder is hooked on data-driven productions and advocates using XML data rather than the workarounds like JDF. With structured data, you have all the needed data to produce automated, and with books of one and touch-free production in both print and binding, it's necessary. Interesting conversations! Screen Europe is, by many, a valued OEM for inkjet printers within both Commercial Print and Labels. At The Horizon Finishing First event, we talked to Marketing Director Taishi Motoshige, Screen Europe. A very nice guy, but also with a clear vision of becoming the number one in selling inkjet presses. According to Motoshige, Screen's legacy is a great asset when developing solutions for the company's customers. But listen and enjoy yourself!

Every day at 13:00, the Horizon Finishing First event hosts a panel debate, and our editor, Morten B. Reitoft, has been asked to host and moderate these sessions. The first was planned to be with a person that had to cancel shortly before the event. Fortunately, Sven Binder was on site and accepted the invitation to step in at the very last minute.

Uffe Nielsen is the CEO (and one of the owners) of GM in Denmark. Known for its label finishing machine. This session is almost the same as the previously published one, but as we had some sound issues, we did the second session and decided to keep both. Uffe Nielsen is extremely passionate about his company, its products, and for sure, also the labels produced. Uffe Nielsen reveals who they sell to in this Learn With Us session, but he also reveals that GM is entering into the mid-web segment. Interesting and worth a watch!

If passion flows in the veins, Uffe Nielsen is a living example. His family-driven company GM (Grafisk Maskinfabrik), has developed into a global supplier of amazing finishing technology for converters, and in this Learn With Us session, he gives us an in-depth introduction to GMs products and, in particular about the company's self-developed laser cutter. Really interesting!

Rafa Menendez knows almost everything worth knowing regarding banner/signage finishing. Horizon International, represented by Bryan Takano and Yasuo Taketsugu, gave, as usual, a fantastic presentation of some of the binding solutions Horizon produces. It was a national holiday in Japan, and a Typhon was about to hit the entire country, but still the two gentlemen decided to give a live demo of an inline solution for printing business cards and trim them with Horizons rotary die-cutter solution. Tecnau develops advanced paper processing and binding equipment. An Italian company, but sales and production are in Sweden and the US.
