The session opens with a quick reality check on how quickly AI is entering everyday business, then shifts to a practical discussion of what AI can actually do for print and packaging companies right now. The conversation focuses on turning existing operational data into useful, actionable insights, not just reports, and using AI to support better decisions minute by minute across production, customer service, and management. A recurring theme is that outcomes depend on foundations: clean processes, reliable data, and clear ownership of privacy and access. The panel emphasizes that AI should assist people rather than replace them, that results should be explainable and auditable, and that companies should keep humans in control while building trust before automating more. From the print service provider perspective, the most valuable early wins come from removing routine tasks, improving internal access to knowledge, and reducing friction—such as using chat-based access to SOPs and handbooks, automatically capturing and summarizing meetings, accelerating site-visit reporting, and using AI for troubleshooting and operational questions. The discussion ends with guidance to start simple, focus on the biggest bottlenecks, build internal champions, and treat AI as an ongoing process of iteration rather than a one-time deployment. Doug Surrett knows that as the Graphics Communications business grows, they must continue to deliver software that meets the challenges of the changing printer industry landscape. He spoke to us about how the company is listening to the management and production teams through the expanding range of software tools they currently manage, and how they are exploring options for additional acquisitions to complement the current portfolio.
Theresa Schumacher is an ERP Administrator in the Phoenix-based Standard Printing Company, and with a strong focus on commercial print, labels, and a move into folding-carton, we are interested in hearing more about the daily challenges. AND, not a 100% surprise, but a lot has to do with people. Theresa Schumacher explains that she is also the go-to person if anything is not working as expected or if new features are required. Despite the many breakout sessions at CONNECT, Theresa Schumacher explains that she is more focused on talking to the people from ePS and CAI that can help specifically, but she likes CONNECT, and she is very pleased with the software and the support provided.
Imagine is a 2,500-person-plus printing company serving a vast range of customers across the US. Josh Basset is the Sr. Director of IT and responsible for the software delivered by ePS and CAI - and, as Josh Bassett has a background himself with EFI, he knows his back-doors and work-arounds - but expresses how important the solutions are in managing the group that has several locations nationwide. As we speak, Josh Bassett, of course, is also talking about the relationship they have with ISCorp, which supports Imagine with a managed hosting solution. We are, as always, curious whether outsourcing is a financially viable option, and though Josh Bassett tells us that ISCorp has been up and running for less than 3 weeks, he can happily tell us that ISCorp is worth the money, also from the perspective of going live. The implementation went smoothly, and Josh Bassett even explains about a situation where the ISCorp solution was essential - but listen for yourself in this great interview!
At the CONNECT 2026 show, we had the opportunity to speak with Ford Bowers, CEO of PRINTING United Alliance. It's amazing to think of how much PRINTING United Alliance has changed the organizational landscape in the US in less than ten years. Being together is still important for Bowers, as we talk about the political influence and more. Enjoy the conversation!
With a background in the recently acquired Avanti, Duncan Ellis has a great background in Customer Experience, and in this interview, we talk about whether size matters, how the customer journey can be as successful as possible and many more things - enjoy!
All industries are impossible to navigate without accurate data, and in this chat with Nathan Safran from Alliance Insights, part of the PRINTING United Alliance. We talk about whether research and publication of trends push a larger agenda than the reality. Interesting chat, so dig in, and enjoy!
Sally Gilbert began in the print industry as a press operator, then navigated into estimating and beyond. Fearless when it comes to technology and open to new technologies, she is now the Director of Operations for one of the company's plants and is still learning.
Steve shared his times for printers of any size to get started with AI, including guidance for both printing company leadership and print technicians. AI can help many facets of the business, but it will take an investment of dedicated time and some budget to make the most of the available platforms and tools.
More is a company with about 3,500 employees, and a company that Jeff Myland himself describes as a conglomerate, as they deliver design, strategy, filming, production, distribution, and more - all to serve their many customers, that for 95% of them are not-for-profit organizations. The growth comes from a combination of organic growth and acquisitions, and when Jeff Myland joined the company about five years ago, it needed a stronger IT strategy. This, among other things, led to the decision to use ePS (now CAI) software, but rather than hosting everything themselves, they worked with ISCorp to develop a plan. ISCorp is not just a hosting company, but one that hosts and runs all applications in ISCorp-owned server farms across America and Europe, and services and supports the software it hosts. So for Jeff Myland and Moore, the cost and complexity of running their own hardware and software have been a great investment, but listen to Jeff Myland here, and learn more!
As we speak with Stu Lungwitz at CONNECT 2026, we understand that his 2nd-generation business, The Print Source, is known as one of the most diversified printing companies in the US, able to deliver various types of, let's say, more specialized print. At some point a few years ago, Stu was introduced to ISCorp and found the hosted solutions so attractive that he almost instantly became a customer - the process was smooth, but he also said, almost laughing, that it could have been done even faster if they just didn't have so much to do at the time. Today, the 50+ people company is a very satisfied ISCorp customer, and all because of word-of-mouth, but also because the alternative to The Print Source at the time would have been investing in expensive new server hardware. Enjoy!
Amber Lawrence knows the MIS and Compliance. Her background makes her a valuable member of the CRW team and a great mentor to the next generation print professional. Roping together these disparate systems keeps her in the thick of the business.
Summer Hopson is part of the new generation of print professionals. Starting as the receptionist at Dumont, she quickly demonstrated her proficiency in AI and is now the strategist for bringing the technology to most areas of the business.
Susan spoke to us about her journey at Dumont, from sales to running the shop, and then to buying it out, and now expanding their capabilities as the President. Along the way, she added print and mail solutions and a digital kit to broaden their range.
Katie Kinraid is a new recruit to the packaging industry, jumping in to lead in the role of the Chief Revenue Officer. She relies on technology to help guide decisions, and knows that the constantly changing software world will need to keep up with the growing array of AI tools and whatever comes next.
Devetta James is VP of Operations at Smurfit Westrock, leveraging years of experience in the Healthcare sector to develop cutting-edge approaches to the packaging products she oversees. After only three years, she has developed an approach to learning the nuances of the corrugated converting industry that provides guidance for the next generation.
Deanna Neeck is an MIS guru with experience on both the vendor and print production side. Her years of experience give her insights into what an MIS needs to be and how to customize it to meet the needs of a business.
It's often said that business starts in the bar, the chat between Larry Dodd and Morten Reitoft started at a lunch at CONNECT. Operating six printing companies across three states requires a great IT infrastructure. Larry Dodd managed this in his position, but has an advantage as he previously worked for EFI and probably knows more than most... Enjoy the conversation!
At CONNECT 2026, one of the first things you will ask a printer is what type of printer he is - and here at CONNECT 2026, it's only natural, as Graphic Communications is about commercial print and eProductivity is about Packaging, but in this chat with Kyle Kennedy, we talk about whether the industry silos really do the industry justice. Kyle Kennedy explains how his Commercial printing company is considering diversifying into other segments, and maybe this is just the way things develop right now :-)
Part of covering an event like CONNECT 2026 is obviously talking to some of the attendees, and here we go. Imanol Cortazar is the President of Bradford & Bigelow, out of Boston. Imanol Cortazar is at CONNECT to learn being updated, and when we spoke with him, he had just attended the AI presentation by Steve Metcalf. Enjoy!
