Fabio Valoti is responsible for the production plant where many of Meccanotecnica's parts are manufactured. For Meccanotecnica, it's important to control the production of the most critical parts and time-sensitive parts, such as spare parts, as even small deviations from requirements can affect a machine's performance. Valoti has been with Meccanotecnica for more than 20 years, and explains that even the most complex machines become "easy" to make if just the CAD/CAM is done right.

In this, The Walk, we take a closer look at the brand-new LYRA from Meccanotecnica - a case-in-point machine, made for print-on-demand and book-of-one production. According to Meccanotecnica, the machine is extremely competitive in the market up to 1,000 books and wins over the competition by offering no setup, being fully automated, and therefore being usable by operators with no or limited skills. The machine is defining a new mid-category, which is super interesting for yearbook producers, photobook producers, and the book manufacturers specialized in book-of-one production. The LYRA is part of the new Meccanotecnica that, since drupa 2024, has developed new machines for the first time in its 60+ years of history outside the smyth-sewn segment.
