Tiffany Bisson · Print Technology Consultant, Inkjet Product Manager · EFI
EFI is known for bringing equipment to trade shows that customers can actually see running, and at PRINTING United 2026 in Las Vegas, Wayne Beckett meets Tiffany Bisson from EFI in front of one of the company’s newest additions — the VUTEk M3h X.
The M3h X builds on the VUTEk M3h platform but adds significantly more production capacity. For EFI, however, increasing speed isn’t simply about making the carriage move faster. It’s about increasing the real amount of sellable work that can pass through a print operation every day.
A new printhead configuration increases throughput, but EFI has also worked extensively on material handling. A six-zone vacuum system, optical media detection and continuous asymmetric loading allow operators to keep feeding substrates without waiting for two sheets to be perfectly synchronized. The system can also avoid printing areas where no image exists, reducing unnecessary carriage movement and improving overall production efficiency.
But productivity is only part of the story.
The M3h X is a true hybrid platform designed to move between roll-fed and rigid applications, giving PSPs the ability to serve very different markets from one machine. And EFI continues to expand what can be produced in a single printing process.
Multilayer printing enables dimensional and textured applications, while clear ink can create visual effects or be used as a protective layer. In some applications, that protection can remove the need for a separate lamination process — eliminating another production step, another touchpoint and potentially another bottleneck.
White, clear and extended color capabilities are also designed so that customers don’t necessarily have to sacrifice existing ink channels to gain new applications.
That flexibility becomes increasingly important as print service providers diversify.
Wayne asks Tiffany an equally important question: buying a machine capable of producing new applications is one thing, but how does a printer learn how to actually sell those applications?
For EFI, that is increasingly part of the relationship.
Customers can work with EFI before purchasing to identify what they are trying to achieve — whether the challenge is speed, substrates, applications or capacity. After installation, EFI continues supporting customers with application knowledge, materials experience and information designed to help them discover opportunities they may not originally have considered.
Because ultimately, the objective isn’t simply to install another printer.
It’s to keep it printing.
