Rolando Martinez · Senior Director of Marketing, Production Print · CANON

Canon has one of the largest booths at PRINTING United 2026 in Las Vegas — and even with 9,600 square feet, Rolando Martinez says they still couldn’t bring everything.

Morten B. Reitoft meets Rolando to look at just how broad Canon’s production portfolio has become, spanning toner, sheetfed inkjet, continuous-feed inkjet and an increasingly extensive range of wide-format technologies.

In wide format, the Colorado XL takes Canon’s UVgel technology into a completely different production class with an 11-foot hybrid platform, while Arizona and the DigiTech Texas platforms cover flatbed applications, automation and even robotic handling.

But much of the conversation focuses on production inkjet.

The new varioPRINT iX1700 fills an important space between high-volume toner and Canon’s faster sheetfed inkjet platforms. For commercial printers looking to move more work from toner — or begin shifting offset applications into inkjet — it provides another step on the production ladder.

At the other end is the varioPRESS iV7.

The B2+ inkjet press isn’t physically at PRINTING United, but Canon is demonstrating its capabilities through an interactive experience. For Rolando, the iV7 illustrates how dramatically inkjet has evolved: quality is increasingly comparable with offset, while productivity is now moving into territory traditionally associated with conventional presses.

And toner isn’t standing still either. Canon is showing the second generation imagePRESS V900 II, demonstrating that development continues across both technologies.

The result is an increasingly broad production portfolio where printers can choose technology based on volume, turnaround time, applications and economics rather than simply deciding between “digital” and “offset.”

Competition remains strong, and Rolando welcomes it. But Canon clearly believes that as commercial printers continue moving work toward digital production, having technologies that span from toner through B2+ and continuous-feed inkjet puts the company in an interesting position.

And Morten has one prediction: one day every offset printer may also have a varioPRESS iV7.

Rolando doesn’t seem to disagree.
