Morgan Strauss · Print Shop Manager · He...

Pat McGrew speaks with first-time Printing United attendee Morgan Strauss. Morgan explains that the main purpose of attending the show is education. Although it is not a purchasing year for their company, Morgan is exploring equipment options and learning as much as possible in a new management role. The company operates as an in-house printer with a small team, handling many responsibilities, and is particularly interested in digital print capabilities and what could potentially be brought in-house in the future. Software is not an immediate priority, but Morgan acknowledges it may be relevant later and is open to gathering information from vendors. Morgan plans to stay for the entire show and hopes to return home with new knowledge to inform future planning and to share insights with the rest of the team.

More, Shorter, Customized Jobs · Gershon...

Visiting vendors is always fun, and when we went to Israel, we got two great opportunities: to speak with Gershon Alon and Golan Landsberg - straight from the HP V12 lab outside Tel Aviv in Israel. In this short interview with Gershon Alon, we get his view on how HP PrintOS supports the industry's megatrends - and yes, the trends are also what we see wherever your hardworking INKISH team is! More jobs, shorter jobs, and more customized jobs. The trend is apparent within almost every segment of the industry. HP PrintOS is a great software that enables printers to optimize print production, and as Gershon Alon explains, the software is vendor agnostic. Vendors like Heidelberger Druckmaschinen, EFI, and Kodak already integrates with HP PrintOS. Enjoy!

More Profitable New Opportunities · Fran...

At Koenig & Bauer Durst’s variJET Open House in Radebeul, I had the pleasure of speaking with Francois Martin, and this is one of those conversations that puts everything into perspective. Because when someone who has spent more than two decades in digital print says that what we are seeing today is the realization of ideas from 20 years ago, you listen. Francois has seen the shift. From a time where digital was questioned, challenged, and often dismissed, to a point where it is now understood. Not as a replacement for offset, but as an enabler. And that distinction matters more than ever. What he explains very clearly is that the conversation has changed. Years ago, digital had to defend itself, quality discussions, cost discussions, compromises. Today, those conversations are largely gone. Quality is expected. What matters now is how technologies work together. And that’s exactly what we see here. Offset and digital are no longer competing. They are part of the same production logic. The same workflow. The same decision-making process. Some jobs belong on offset, some belong on digital, and some sit in between. The difference today is that converters have the tools to choose. That wasn’t the case before. He also touches on something that is often overlooked. It’s not just about shorter runs. It’s about more jobs. More SKUs. More complexity. The volume hasn’t disappeared, but it has fragmented. And without digital, handling that complexity becomes extremely difficult. That’s where the real value is. I particularly liked his analogy with transportation. You don’t send a large truck into a narrow street if a small vehicle does the job better. It sounds simple, but that’s exactly how converters need to think today. Use the right tool for the right job, not the same tool for everything. We also touched on finishing, and this is where things get interesting. Printing is becoming more flexible, more digital, but finishing is still largely conventional. Die-cutting, folding, gluing, these are areas where innovation still has room to grow. Francois is convinced that the next wave will come here, somewhere between traditional tooling and fully digital processes. And that makes sense. Because if digital print is about flexibility, then the entire workflow needs to follow. Another point he raises is the value of integrated ecosystems. When one supplier can deliver printing, workflow, and finishing in a coherent system, it simplifies operations. It doesn’t mean customers are locked in, but it does mean they are building long-term relationships. And in an industry where equipment lives for 20–30 years, that matters. This is not a transactional business. It’s a partnership. What I take from this conversation is simple. Digital is no longer the future. It’s part of the present. The challenge now is not whether to adopt it, but how to use it effectively alongside existing technologies. Watch the interview with Francois Martin, this is a perspective shaped by experience, and it explains very well why the industry is where it is today, and where it’s heading next.

More Open Culture More Partners · Jordi ...

We asked Jordi Giralt directly, "Do KURZ open more up towards the world?" and Jordi Giralt answered immediately, "Yes." And you do see how KURZ with the Label Weeks opens up for more customers, but also new partners, like Grafotronic, which you can see in another INKISH film. The world is changing, and what we like about KURZ is that the solid business is based on solid values, robust leadership, and a fresh look at opportunities. Interesting to follow the KURZ journey, and in this interview yet, a chapter is documented :-)

Mirko Kern · CEO · Manroland · PrintPack...

At Printpack India 2025, Wayne Beckett speaks with Mirko Kern, CEO of Manroland Sheetfed, about the company’s latest innovations and strategic direction in the global printing industry. With strong visitor engagement at the exhibition, Kern highlights Manroland’s focus on high-performance litho presses, particularly in the 70x100 and extra-large format sizes, catering to commercial and packaging markets. A key innovation on display is the PressPilot, a remote support system that enables real-time diagnostics and troubleshooting. The VIGC Hackathon is an annual event organized by VIGC and EY. The purpose is to develop ideas for future solutions in a fun and competitive environment. In less than 48 hours, an idea changes from just an idea into something presented to a jury and an audience. This year's Hackathon had twelve teams presenting exciting ideas - some more innovative and exciting than others - but the jury unanimously agreed on this year's 2nd place - yes, we also agreed on number one and number three :-) The Shiprz project was developed by Miki Rubin and Wouter Meeuwisse - and subsidized shipping costs by adding personalized advertising on shipping labels. Miki Rubin · Fast Forward · Toner · OPS ...

The first part is a component of an imaging section of a digital toner printer. I spent many years managing a service department. So, I started rotating at a distributor for Konica Minolta. From a business position, to then service. And then became VP of Operations and Strategy. From one side, I see users taking the machinery to the maximum. Or even more than an OEM even thought about. Before OEMs were focused on installing midfoot machines in the field. And that's what they get measured by. We have to be as close to the buying customer as possible. And at the end there's going to be a very big consolidation of production. Printers have an amazing advantage for on-demand local production of X. So, this was 2019 - a week before that flight, I called Bernd Zipper. And that ended up traveling to an Online Print Symposium. And this was this huge eye opener. I think local culture is very important. I wouldn't call it 'transform'. I would call it 'adapt'. Panama has no postal system. So how do you deliver something? There's been an increase on last mile delivery startups. So that's facilitated not only print, but all the e-commerce. This is a print controller board where everything connects to. It's basically the brain of the machine. We're trying to build something similar. But outside of the printer. Our company is called IMPRIMU. And we're building an on-demand print network. Those are my kids. We were at the beach one day. And just putting it into context…all these difficulties last year. But at the same time there were so many good moments. And the question is: how do you take advantage of those good moments? And are you able to appreciate them? That is actually our product. That is value we are providing to a tuna processing plant. And we are providing pretty on-demand labels for them. I love being a part of that adaptation. LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikirubin/

Mike Zumbiel · Vice President, Sales · Z...

Zumbiel is one of the companies on my bucket list for a long time, and now we have the chance. Zumbiel has specialized in folding carton boxes for beers and softdrinks - and despite being a company of a specific size, they consider them small compared to the big players - but that also gives Zumbiel a unique position in the market, serving the customers that from time to time have circulations that are better suited for the mixed technology mix offered by Zumbiel. Zumbiel has several flexo-presses, VLF offset presses, and the HP T-470 inkjet printer. The T470 is a workhorse, and Mike Zumbiel explains that digital machines are so productive that he sometimes wonders if he has bought his last analogue press. Listening to Mike Zumbiel is a treat - so why not treat yourself?

Mike Scrutton · Director, Print Technolo...

Adobe and Scodix have partnered to integrate the Adobe PDF Print Engine directly into the Scodix workflow. This gives Scodix users the same high-quality, reliable PDF interpretation that Adobe already provides across more than 200,000 systems worldwide. Because the engine handles complex elements such as spot colors, overprint, and knockouts in precisely the same way as CMYK production devices, printers can expect consistent results when transferring artwork from the main CMYK print to Scodix embellishment. The integration also significantly improves processing performance, with reported speed increases of 30–40%, providing faster file preparation and effectively increasing overall capacity—an advantage for demanding applications such as variable data embellishment. Adobe and Scodix are also collaborating on new technology under development, currently code-named Project Goldsmith, aimed at simplifying the preparation of embellishment files. The goal is to reduce prepress processing from minutes or hours to seconds by automatically understanding designer intent and optimizing PDFs for embellishment production. Adobe has published reference material for creatives interested in preparing embellishment-ready files, and the partnership signals a broader focus on creating an efficient, end-to-end workflow from design through manufacturing.

Interview in English - subtitles in Dutch. — EN — Agfa has also chosen to have a limited presence at Drupa without an exhibition booth. A somewhat strange observation for many, but probably due to the fact that they said goodbye to their Offset division last year. So I meet up with Mike Hosten on neutral ground where we talk about his DPC part within the Agfa group and how they see Drupa and the developments in the graphic playing field taking further shape.
