Productive Gains with Extremely Few Touc...

We don't know many who don't talk about automation, often referring to workflow automation, but in this film, you will see automation like never before. The cardboard packaging printing company Schur Pack in Germany uses Schur Pack's own (but commercially available) logistics systems - sold and distributed in collaboration with Koenig & Bauer. CEO Klaus Madsen from Schur Pack explains the motivations and background for the high automation level, ensuring zero touchpoints on the substrates printed on. Director, Per Baekgaard from Schur Technology, explains why logistics solutions are important. "The faster a machine runs, the more it costs to spend time getting paper/cardboard to and from the machine," and the productivity gains can be in the range of 12-15% - and NOT reserved to large printing companies only. Enjoy the film - you WILL be inspired! LinkedIn Profiles: CEO Klaus Madsen Director Per Baekgaard

PRINTNEXT19: Where is the Profitability ...

The Swedish Federation of Printers organize 400+ printing companies in Sweden and part of the work CEO Ravindra Parasnis has done is an intensive research work about "Who makes money in the printing industry." With data from more than 2.000 companies over 7 years, the data is quite comprehensive. At PrintNext19 Ravindra Parasnis gave an update and status of the Swedish printing industry - it's very interesting and if you choose to download the presentation on INKISH.TV you can see also the changes from the previous report. Though this is data from Sweden, the results and the trends probably are very similar in most western countries. VERY interesting and something that the global print-industry should be very interested in! Watch, Like, and Share.

Thomas Hayes is the President of Kompac Technologies, and they develop both water- and UV-based coaters. At the Tecnau booth, they show an inline/nearline solution for online coating, and that's a great idea. As digital print gets better and better, more and more applications will move to digital print - and therefore, integrated solutions like the one Tecnau and Kompac offer make a lot of sense. Postcards, Covers, you name it. It is great to see an important component in Digital Transformation!

Printing United 2023 · Scott Mackie · Ge...

At PRINTING United Fujifilm, for the first time outside Japan, showed the new Revoria GC12500 - a B2 toner-based printer - aimed to conquer a certain B2 space in the industry and maybe even more open new doors for printing companies looking for alternatives to offset. The machine is quite big, but the operator area is easy to access within a few steps, and the machine can print on structured substrates (paper and synthetics), thin paper, and even cardboard, opening tons of new opportunities - and quality. Well, the quality is as good as it gets. When INKISH saw the machine for the first time at IGAS in Tokyo, samples could not be picked up or even examined closely, but now the samples can be checked in detail, and soon the machine will be available. Interesting to see how Fujifilm today delivers a full range of printing devices in the commercial space, from B3 digital printers to B2, to inkjet to continuous feed - a strategy that will be interesting for almost all segments in the commercial space. Super interesting. The interview is with Scott Mackie, General Manager, Fujifilm Asia Pacific - and always great listening to Scott Mackie - so listen and enjoy what you see and hear!

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from St...

Morten from INKISH TV here, continuing my coverage from Printing United in Atlanta. While I'm still at the Standard Finishing booth, I've moved to spotlight a different setup: the combination of Hunkler and Horizon, showcasing saddle-stitched products. A surprising trend in the industry is the growth in book production. One might assume a shift towards e-books, but a Stockholm conference enlightened me on an emerging perspective. Publishers recognize the sentimental value of books as gifts – after all, who would prefer a QR code over a tangible, beautiful book? Presented here is a glimpse into a modern book factory. The setup is geared towards "books of one" production, creating book blocks for both softcover and later-case bound editions. The process includes paper feeding, collating, and PUR binding, making it highly adaptable. Represented by Standard Finishing in North America, Horizon offers this innovative technology that caters to the demand for individualized high-quality books. For more insights, visit INKISH TV, where we've featured numerous companies across Europe and America utilizing this technology. Reporting from the Standard Finishing booth, this is Morten Reitoft for INKISH TV.

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from St...

I'm Morten from INKISH TV, currently at Printing United in Atlanta, standing in front of Standard Finishings' impressive booth. When attending trade shows, especially in the U.S., where most only last three days, it's not expected to see a wealth of equipment. However, Printing United, since its inception in Dallas in 2019, has been growing in terms of equipment showcased. The Las Vegas edition last year had more, but this year in Atlanta, there's more equipment than any previous Printing United event. Standard Finishings, which represents Hunkeler and Horizon, is no exception. Hunkler and Horizon offer turnkey solutions, covering everything from paper processing to finishing. Companies like Standard Finishings work closely with print OEMs. After all, it's almost impossible to think about digital printing without considering the necessary finishing equipment, whether nearline, online, or offline. This largely depends on the type of applications, the amount of printing equipment, and the product range. Behind me is a prime example of this integrated approach: an unwinder that processes printed rolls into sheets, which feeds into the Horizon binder. The result is a neatly saddle-stitched product ready for dispatch. In the industry, both Hunkeler and Horizon hold strong positions. And for those in the North American market looking to dive deeper, Standard Finishings is the go-to partner. Signing off from INKISH TV, this is Morten.

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from Mü...

Morten here from INKISH, reporting from Printing United in Atlanta. If you notice the distinct blue-purple hue, you'll recognize I'm at the Müller Martini booth, a signature color of this Swiss brand. Not far from them in Switzerland is Hunkler, another exceptional company. While Hunkler specializes in digital paper finishing, Müller Martini excels in book finishing and saddle stitch products, and they're renowned in their field. Although Müller Martini was once a larger company, it's now more streamlined, profitable, and innovative. What's intriguing is their evolution from a leader in the offset realm to a significant player in the digital world, meeting its unique demands. Case in point: their variable binding equipment. Many print companies now use their machinery for 'books of one'. A notable example is Linemark in Maryland, which efficiently handles thousands of such orders daily. The booth is quiet as they're setting up for a presentation. Even though the equipment isn't running now, it's a testament to the power of trade shows like this. Attendees can see, touch, and discuss these machines with experts.

Printing United 2023 · Reporting from Ko...

Komori is celebrating its centennial this year—a monumental achievement! It's difficult for me to recall events from a decade ago, let alone a century. Many companies in the industry are marking their 100th anniversaries this year. Last year was significant, but this year stands out because many companies we discuss today, including Komori, are turning a century old. Despite this, our industry feels as vibrant as ever. Reporting live from Printing United at Komori's booth, there's a palpable blend of history and present-day innovation. Remember when MBO was acquired by Komori a few years ago? Here, you can witness the synergy of the post-press alliance—finishing partners coming together to offer comprehensive solutions. For instance, a setup combines MBO's folding capabilities with Hooner's stitching, topped off by the impressive CoboStack robot that perfectly arranges finished products on a pallet. Komori's Lithrone printing machines, used by thousands worldwide, remain at the forefront of technology, continually pushing the envelope in automation. A recurring theme at trade shows recently, including this year, is the emphasis on automation. It's about streamlining workflows, enhancing efficiency, and cutting costs. However, post-COVID, automation also addresses the challenge of finding skilled labor. It's fascinating how the narrative has shifted. As I ponder the future, I can only imagine what the 103rd edition of Printing United might showcase. Perhaps Komori will still be at the forefront? What will production look like then? The possibilities are thrilling. This is Morten Reitoft from INKISH TV, signing off from Printing United in Atlanta.
