Canada is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles), making it the world’s second-largest country by total area. Its southern border with the United States, stretching 8,891 kilometres (5,525 mi), is the world’s longest bi-national land border. Canada’s capital is Ottawa, and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

Various indigenous peoples inhabited what is now Canada for thousands of years before European colonization. Beginning in the 16th century, British and French expeditions explored and later settled along the Atlantic coast. As a consequence of various armed conflicts, France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763. In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom. This widening autonomy was highlighted by the Statute of Westminster of 1931 and culminated in the Canada Act of 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament.

Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy in the Westminster tradition, with a monarch and a prime minister who serves as the chair of the Cabinet and head of government. The country is a realm within the Commonwealth of Nations, a member of the Francophonieand officially bilingual at the federal level. It ranks among the highest in international measurements of government transparency, civil liberties, quality of life, economic freedom, and education. It is one of the world’s most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many other countries. Canada’s long and complex relationship with the United States has had a significant impact on its economyand culture.

A developed country, Canada has the seventeenth-highest nominal per-capita income globally as well as the thirteenth-highest ranking in the Human Development Index. Its advanced economy is the tenth-largest in the world, relying chiefly upon its abundant natural resources and well-developed international trade networks. Canada is part of several major international and intergovernmental institutions or groupings including the United Nations, NATO, the G7, the Group of Ten, the G20, the North American Free Trade Agreement and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperationforum.

Printing United 2023 · Andrew Bailes-Col...

Ultimate TechnoGraphics is one of the absolute forerunners in the workflow/automation part of the graphic arts industry - not only because of the workflow/automation software but also because of their openness. In the months before PRINTING United, the company announced several partnerships and some major product announcements, like a brand new nesting engine, but too many, maybe even more important, an option to scale processing power dynamically as needed. This interview with Andrew Bailes-Collins - Head of Product Management - gives us great insights, so get on board - NOW!

Printing United 2023 · Chris Harrington ...

We passed their booths at previous North American print shows and always wanted to meet them, and suddenly, an invite to a party on Wednesday evening gave us an opportunity. Chris Harrington is the VP of sales, and as you may already know, Graphic Whizard does things differently than most. Two times a year, they do road trips showing customers, offering training, and well - as Editor Morten B. Reitoft says - if Mohammed doesn't come to the mountain, the mountain must come to Mohammed. Nice concept, and well - listen to what Chris Harrington has to say!

Printing United 2023 · Dan Deveau · Owne...

Dan Deveau owns Camad in Toronto, and INKISH filmed at his company a little more than a year ago. Meeting Dan Deveau again was super. Before we started, he said, 'It's impossible to tell my company's story short' - but we made an attempt, and one of the conclusions is that shifting from screen printing to digital saved the company - but listen for yourself. PRINTING United is about technology, business, and networking. Often, gatherings are organized at the booth when the show nears the closing hours, and people are invited to join for a party. That is exactly what happened at AGFA's booth on the second day of PRINTING United. We suggested Deborah Hutcheson from AGFA invite some of the AGFA customers we filmed for the past years for a 'reunion,' and five super nice people agreed to join us.

New major upgrades to its Impostrip software, an entirely new nesting engine, new partner announcements, and Scalable software technology - as you can understand, good reason to talk to Raymond Duval. An article published on INKISH.NEWS about an extended collaboration between Horizon International and Ultimate TechnoGraphics got our attention, and we reached out to both parties to hear more. Here is the first (of two) where CEO Julie Watson, Ultimate TechnoGraphics, explains that Horizon and Ultimate TechnoGraphics have worked together for a long time - and without saying anything specific, the new collaboration could mean tighter integration and new products released. We are excited, and though not specific - enjoy this interview with Julie Watson!

This is a VERY important chat between Executive Vice President Scott Baker from Crawford Technologies and Editor Morten B. Reitoft. All the personal and sometimes financial data handled by thousands of printing companies need to be managed, not only to the law but also to ensure privacy, security, and the trust customers put in our hands when we print data. Crawford Technologies specializes in software that enables the secure encrypted transfer of data and the ability to track data so the exact location of that piece of data is known to those who are supposed to know. This is important! Enjoy!

From Screen Printing to Large Format Ink...

We've been with SO many printing companies over the years, and though amiable people meet 99% of the time - this one will be something special. Not just because of the superior technology and the products they produce. Not only because you see a company is investing in technology like the gigantic Massivit 3D printer. Not only because the company also invests in the creative side of events (we get to see how they work while here) but also because of the warm people working with CamAd in Toronto. Dan Deveau is highly genuine, open-minded, and friendly, but he touched me when I met his father. Bob Deveau has undoubtedly been a focused businessman. However, handing over the printing company to his son, and still at a high age, almost daily coming to the office to be around and participate in the business decisions, is lovely. Still, it also shows why CamAd is a company where everybody knows each other and does not just SAY family values but live family values. All the above said, Dan Deveau and his team operate a company where they still (but less) work screen printing (analog) but have taken strategic measures to become a digital company with strong craftsmanship - Dan Deveau is not a believer in automation, and you can see that the manual approach does its advantages - for example in how media is handled, but enough written. Watch the film, listen and learn - absolutely one of the better in my mind!

Warren Werbitt · Fast Forward · Indigo ·...

Well, first of all, I like the pink shirt that I'm wearing. But the Indigo... It's I'm actually an investor with my brother. Partner with my brother in a label company called Stick2. And we're just really proud of the equipment. The Crown Pub started last year when the pandemic started. I think it was around March or April. And I was invited on. And then I've been on every week since. Which, by the way, had there been no Covid, I wouldn't have thirty five friends around the world. That was from the last PaperSpecs Unboxing event. Went on to the event, had a great time. Sabine does a wonderful job with it. And I had requested from one of the Sappi reps some Sappi paper. I was just at the office. I was walking through the back. And just looking for one of those candid shots of... And stick my face in front of a machine. In front of a camera. I got my first shot three weeks ago. And I got to tell you, I didn't realize how crazy Covid was making me in my head. But when I got that shot, I almost could have cried. I felt like it was Warren 2.0. And I was given a second chance on life. So we were fishing carp. That's the setup. Where you basically just plant your polls. And you have line readers. And you sit there. And I was basically working remotely. I have ADHD, so I bounce around a lot. Then it became ADHDTV. Because I sit with the remote control and keep changing channels. My kids gave me a remote control without batteries. So I could sit in the room. But I am bouncing. When I get into a boat or I'm standing in the water with a fly rod, I could not be more peaceful. My brain is getting creative. I'm thinking. I have nothing with me. That is the best. I'm not worried. Print has always been evolving and changing. The only thing I would like is... I would like for... And please everyone listen. I would like for all the negative people in our industry to get the hell out. Before they take us down for no reason. It's about bringing the positivity back to the industry. Because we need to be upbeat and we need to attract young talent. All you old people out.

Joanne Gore · Fast Forward · Radio · Boo...

That radio is funny. I can remember that radio being in my life from the time I was a little girl. We had a little tiny little black and white TV. That got two channels. And I just remember pushing the buttons and trying to find the sound. And when my mom passed and a few years ago, I got a bunch of her stuff. This radio was in there. I'm hearing the same ads, but on different podcasts now. The type of communication hasn't changed. And I love how podcasts have evolved. It takes at least ten touches before your brand is a memory. Is even recognizable. That's where you can really start to recognize the buying patterns and the behaviors. And yeah, a lot of it is because we are bombarded and hit by so many messages. On so many channels. Scrolling and scrolling and scrolling. Oh, oh, I'm going to stop for a second. That spark that makes somebody stop. It becomes a little bit tricky, especially if you're selling a B2B solution. The smart companies are using their employees as brand ambassadors. I tend to be creative with words that need to be graphic designer. I got into the print industry as a typesetter. I have roots in print. And a lot of what I surround myself with are those fond memories. I've got illustrations of my parents. These are the things that I look at. That no matter what craziness is going on. I feel like so much has changed. But yet so much has stayed the same. I think we should stop calling it the print industry. And start calling it the communications industry. You know, I've been hearing for years print is dead. Print isn't dead. Print is dead. Print isn't dead. Print has changed. Print is different. Print is more. Print is communication. Print is the only medium where you can take a digital brand and actually make it physical. Are we ever going to call ourselves the communications industry? I think that would be awesome.

George Folickman · Fast Forward · Esko ·...

Before coming to Tilia Labs, I began my career at Esko. Focused on the CAD and CAM side of the Esko business. At the time, one of the biggest challenges that was always prevalent in when we would call on these customers is like: layout creation. Back in 2018, a small startup company started coming up on the radar: Tilia Labs. We started hearing about them from our companies. And something that was really unique about what they were doing is that they were incorporating this cost aspect to lay out an imposition. But once digging into a little bit further, I realized that it's not just throw items onto a sheet or nine up on a carton on a press sheet and go. There's a lot more ways that we can optimize that. And really actually save a converter a lot of money. That was really new and interesting and exciting for me. Back in 2018 I kept following the company. Eventually met Sagen, the CEO. Thought he was a really interesting and exciting kind of younger energy in this industry. From there, it just kind of took off. I joined Tilia Labs in 2019. I joined with my colleague Tyler Thompson. We came over to really establish their sales organization. Their direct sales here in North America. I saw some recent stats that say on average, the prepress person is spending about 15 minutes on imposition per job. I think most people think of it as a necessary evil. Obviously, there's a lot more to it. She walked into my office and I had a glass of ice water sitting on my desk. And she had seen this glass of ice water there like a couple of days in a row. How many times do you refill this water glass? And I looked at her and I was like: I don't know, once a day, maybe. Whenever I'm thirsty. And two days later, I get this very, very large box from Amazon. And she brings it into my office and says, go ahead and open this up, it's for you. Inside is like the world's largest water bottle that I have ever seen in my life.

Multilane Imposition To Be Used With HP ...

In this film, we visit Albelli in Den Haag in The Netherlands. We are together with Scott More and Sagen De Jonge from Tilia Labs who are sponsoring this episode. Albelli is one the major photoproduct printer in Europe and we are visiting them because they are using Tilia Labs Phoenix to impose. Albelli chose to work with Tilia Labs since they invested in a new HP Indigo 50000 - the first in Europe - and wanted to impose their photobooks into multi-lanes in order to use the current binding equipment. With the efficiency of Phoenix, they are now able to utilize the Indigo-Work-Horse to the fullest and not only does that require handling of huge PDF files (up to 20gb) but also to handle imposition in reverse order, since the reels have to be handled afterward in existing binding equipment. So two stories could be told - but there is more to it. Albelli is automating as much as they can and one of the requirements was to have an imposition software that could be handled via an API. Using an API enable Albelli IT to integrate all the imposition processes directly into their workflow which gives Albelli huge advantages in their workflow. A fantastic story in a fantastic printing company, and with amazing software done by crazy nice people. Thank you for the opportunity to shoot this film and thank you for your support!

Tilia Labs Makes Your Printing Company M...

Tilia Labs is one of our favorite companies in the printing industry for many reasons. One is, of course, the amazing products they do - and as you already may know - their products are all about imposition, nesting, and planning. Their flagship Phoenix is a truly versatile product that not only has a great user interface but maybe more important also feature a REST API. Many printers may not know what this is but very short; this is the interface (for programmers) that enables your MIS, ERP, Web-to-Print, what-ever software to connect and utilize the strength of the Tilia Labs Phoenix software. The second reason why we really like this company is that of Sagen de Jonge and Scott More. The two owners are simply nice hanging out with. Their drive, motivation, and personality are just great and when you listen to the two owners, friends and brothers in arms they talk about coding, technology, market, and teaser often each other with comments that to regular people is just, well - secret codes? We got to know Sagen and Scott when we did the film at The Bernard Group, and we really would like you to know them too.
