Stefan SchĂŒlling and Jannik MĂŒller · Pre...

In this engaging conversation on inkish, Stefan and Jannik from MBO and H+H, subsidiaries of the Komori group, discuss their companies' expertise and innovations in the printing and post-press industry. MBO, acquired by Komori in 2020, specializes in post-press solutions, focusing on making printing companies more productive and efficient through advanced mechanical engineering. H+H, a part of MBO since 2000 and based in Bielefeld, Germany, excels in creating machines for folding pharmaceutical leaflets and other thin paper products, boasting capabilities of folding up to 24 times in parallel. The dialogue also touches on the future of printing, emphasizing the importance of robotic solutions like the CoboStack for enhancing operational efficiency and addressing labor shortages. As they prepare for Drupa 2024, both companies hint at showcasing their latest innovations and customer-focused solutions, demonstrating their commitment to advancing the printing industry's capabilities.

Stefan SchĂŒlling · Managing Director · M...

At Printing United in Orlando, Morten B. Reitoft from INKISH speaks with Stefan SchĂŒlling, Managing Director of MBO Group in Germany, about the company’s international position, market outlook, and the strong energy at this year’s exhibition. With more than 830 exhibitors and record-breaking visitor numbers, SchĂŒlling describes the atmosphere as vibrant and encouraging — far busier than many recent European trade shows. He emphasizes that the return of large crowds is a positive sign for the entire industry, especially for companies like MBO that invest heavily in both technology and presence at major global events. SchĂŒlling explains that while MBO operates worldwide, the American market has always been especially important. The company established a direct organization in the United States early on and continues to see strong demand there. However, he stresses that MBO’s strategy remains global, with each region playing a vital role in the company’s success. He acknowledges that current economic conditions vary by region — with challenges in Asia, emerging markets, and the effects of tariffs and currency shifts — but remains confident in MBO’s ability to navigate these factors and continue growing internationally. When comparing markets, SchĂŒlling notes that MBO is perceived somewhat differently across regions. In Europe and most other parts of the world, the company is still best known for its high-performance folding machines — a core technology that built its reputation. In the United States, however, MBO has become increasingly recognized for its continuous inkjet and postpress finishing solutions. This shift, he explains, is the result of both stronger digital print adoption in North America and MBO America’s successful focus on modular, inline finishing systems that integrate seamlessly with high-speed digital presses. Looking ahead, SchĂŒlling sees significant potential to expand these same technologies in Europe. While acknowledging that competition remains strong, he believes MBO’s innovation pipeline and upcoming product introductions will strengthen its position. Technologies already proven in the U.S. market — particularly in digital finishing and automation — will soon be made available to European customers as well, creating new opportunities for growth. As the discussion concludes, Stefan SchĂŒlling expresses optimism about the future, saying that while the industry continues to evolve, MBO’s commitment to innovation and adaptability remains unchanged. “Being pessimistic is not the right attitude,” he says. “Opportunities are always there — we just have to look for them.”

Stefan SchĂŒlling came to MBO with a background from the ink-side of the industry, and the journey he has been on the past year is impressive. Now leading MBO. Along with a new streamlined organization and being integrated with the Komori organization, there is plenty to do, and at drupa, MBO shows new products and updates to existing lines. But listen for yourself :-)

Stefan Kessler · Lambda @ #SeikoOpenWeek...

Stefan Kessler from Lambda presents in this film their NIR - or Near Infra-Red curing solution that is the perfect solution for water-based curing. With the right frequency of the bulb, the drying process starts from the inside of the ink and gives the printer a number of advantages. If you are printing with UV, you know that it's photo-initiators that react to the UV-light, and though low-migration UV and a broader frequency perspective open up for UV to be used with food packaging, water-based has numerous advantages. This film is good to get wiser on!

Stefan Hunkeler about Hunkeler Innovatio...

The COVID pandemic is for sure still not over, and the number of cancellations and postponements of events is still something we have to live with. Hunkeler Innovationdays, one of the most beloved events, has already been postponed a couple of times. Though many had hoped for the event to occur in February 2022, Hunkeler President Stefan Hunkeler gave the sad message about moving the event to 2023 a few weeks ago. INKISH went to Switzerland to talk to Stefan Hunkeler but focused more on what to expect in 2023. Our colleagues from WhatTheyThink did also talk to Stefan Hunkeler - see the interview made by David Zwang at the following link: LinkedIn Profile

STATUS: Printing United 2019 · Ford Bowe...

Printing United has been one of the most anticipated events in the US printing industry for at least some years. When a new trade-show of this scale is presented, most attendees, exhibitors, media, and of course, the people working with the event, set some expectations. Printing United was fantastic. Most of the time, exhibitors were very busy, and attendees used the show to gain knowledge, to see new products, to be inspired, and of course, to acquire new products, and services. The show had, in my opinion, fewer innovations than expected. Maybe this made Printing United "just" a perfect trade show because of the size, the optimism, and the fact that the organizers "under one roof" show was right. We will soon write a more detailed opinion on INKISH.NEWS about the event itself, and what kind of things we would like to see in the future. But here you can hear and see an interview with one of the driving forces behind Printing United, President & CEO Ford Bowers of the SGIA. This film was recorded LIVE.

Listen to Tim Baechle here and reach out to Idealliance to get more info. We expect to deliver more info on INKISH in respect to the challenges of color management and the tools that can help you become more efficient.

Spring Xu · Global Sales Director · Weig...

Wayne Beckett from Inkish interviews Spring Xu, International Sales Director for Weigang, at LabelExpo 2025 in Barcelona. Spring explains that Weigang has exhibited at LabelExpo Europe since 2009 and is presenting four machines this year: an intermittent offset machine for adhesive labels, a flexo press for medium to long runs, including packaging, and two digital presses for very short runs. The company’s goal is to offer complete printing solutions covering everything from short to long runs. She notes that Weigang uses high-end components from top brands like Rexroth, CMS, Yaskawa, and Schneider, and is looking to expand its global network of sales agents and service centers. For potential agents, she emphasizes the importance of understanding both the technology and the market to ensure customer success and repeat business. Spring highlights that Weigang focuses on high-end machines, has been in the industry since 1996, holds over 60% market share in offset machines in China, and has CE certification through TÜV for the EU market. Spring says the first day of the show exceeded expectations with strong visitor interest, helped by their prime location at the front of the hall. She explains that LabelExpo is a key global platform for meeting partners, current users, and potential buyers. Weigang’s main selling points are high quality, stable performance, and competitive pricing. She adds that while LabelExpo is their most important global event, they also attend various local shows worldwide. She concludes by saying she hopes day two will bring even more orders and interest.

Speed, Quality, Secured with Innovative ...

One of the things we have found quite exciting in the global inkjet-journey is how the same printheads are utilized so differently with various vendors. Printheads are only one component in delivering a successful printing machine, and in this film, we talk to Head of Sales Erik Van Sloten about the Mouvent technology. The Mouvent UV-based machines use FujiFilm Samba printheads. Still, the BOBST company has developed inks, drivers, and maybe most importantly, built the printheads into a cluster configuration that ensures speed, quality, and a high degree of flexibility. Enjoy the film!

Jussi HeinÀmÀki is the General Manager of Spandex in Finland - and in this interview from Sign, Print & Promotion, I get the opportunity to learn - actually a lot. Spandex operates in more than 20 countries and looking at their booth, and the samples they have brought along - I am blown away! Jussi HeinÀmÀki, of course, has to focus on the business side of his business, but he still seems quite satisfied with both the booth, the products he represents, and the potential still in the market.
