BW Papersystems deliver 400 meters/minut...

Drewsen Spezialpapiere is an almost 500 years old paper producer based outside Hannover, Germany. Amazing to see how the company has grown over the centuries and how important the company is to the city of Lachendorf. Generations have worked with the company, and the key to success for Drewsen is its specialty paper production. Paper is typically produced on demand and to the specifications required by customers. When BW Papersystems approached the company about the latest edition of the Questec family cut-stackers, the company could hardly believe the promises. 400 meters/minute on 40 GSM, perfect cut and stacked - but after some testing and further development, the machine is now installed and delivered on its promise - and Drewsen Spezialpapiere is very satisfied with the machine, as you can hear. The cut-stacker can also be used on a web-based printing machine and therefore have a broader audience than 'just' the paper industry. But see for yourself - quite impressive! Buying the Second Press from us is the s...

When a printing company buys a second press from the same manufacturer, it is probably one of the strongest statements you can make about the first one. At Produlith in Montreal, Canada, INKISH’s Morten B. Reitoft meets Brad from Komcan, the Canadian Komori distributor, to talk about a relationship that started when Produlith needed to replace two older presses. The solution was a Komori GLX six-color press equipped with coating and Komori’s PQA camera inspection system. According to Brad, the new press replaced the capacity of two legacy machines while almost doubling Produlith’s production capacity — and reducing the manpower required to operate the equipment. But increased productivity often creates new opportunities. As Produlith continued to grow, take on new customers, and expand its folding carton business, the company once again reached the capacity limits of its pressroom. The answer was a second Komori — this time a GL five-color press with coater, configured specifically for the work Produlith needed it to handle. For Brad, selling presses is ultimately about understanding the customer’s work rather than simply selling a standard configuration. Commercial printing, folding cartons, special applications — the press needs to fit the customer rather than the other way around. Today, only about a year after installing the second Komori, that press is already approaching capacity. So what comes next? Produlith owner Sean has already made it clear that Komori and Komcan are part of the company’s future — and with the growth continuing, another press might not be such a far-fetched idea. Watch the conversation from Produlith in Montreal and hear how productivity, technology, customer understanding, and a strong supplier relationship have helped support the company’s continued growth.

Buying Again Is the Strongest Endorsemen...

In Montreal, Canada, Morten B. Reitoft from INKISH meets with Shawn Desmarchais, President and CEO of Produlith, a family-owned company with a history going back to 1981. What started when Shawn’s father bought his first press and established a small commercial printing company has developed into a packaging business with two production facilities and activities in both folding cartons and flexible packaging. During the visit, Shawn Desmarchais explains why he believes these are good times to be in packaging. Modern equipment has changed production significantly, making machines easier to operate while increasing efficiency, quality, and productivity. Technology also plays an important role when finding and training new employees, as operating today’s presses, die-cutters, and folder-gluers no longer necessarily requires the same traditional craftsmanship as in the past. Produlith has chosen to focus on personalized service combined with what Shawn describes as a world-class production environment. A significant part of the company’s business is within pharmaceutical packaging, where quality standards are high and customers understand the importance of working with suppliers that continuously invest in equipment, people, and production capabilities. For Shawn, profitability and investment go hand in hand, and customers benefit from working with financially healthy suppliers able to develop with their needs. At the folding carton facility, Produlith operates Komori offset presses supplied by Komcan, along with BOBST equipment for die-cutting and folding/gluing. Shawn explains why selecting technology is not only about the equipment itself but equally about the relationship with the supplier. Reliability, service, understanding the customer’s business, and having people available when challenges occur are important parts of the investment decision. The conversation also touches on maintenance, uptime, return on investment, and why Produlith decided to invest in a second Komori press. For Shawn Desmarchais, the logic is quite simple: if the experience with the first press had not been successful, there would probably not have been a second one.

Built for the Customers Who Needed It Ye...

Ask John Abbott where Abbott Label will be in five years, and you probably won't get a five-year plan. That isn't how he runs the company. Markets change. Customers change. New opportunities appear. RFID wasn't necessarily part of some perfectly mapped strategy years in advance, but today the business has grown so quickly that Abbott Label already needs additional equipment. Flexible packaging may be next. For John, the ability to react is more important than pretending everything can be predicted. Abbott Label operates five plants and sells exclusively for resale. The facilities share much of the same core capability, allowing the company to stay close to customers and move work where it makes the most sense. And speed is a major part of the company's identity. While some larger suppliers may work with lead times measured in weeks, Abbott Label has built its business around customers who need something tomorrow — or preferably yesterday. Stock materials, ready-to-ship products, similar capabilities across plants, and a production culture focused on throughput allow Abbott Label to turn many jobs around in just three to five days. That also makes software increasingly important. With five facilities, production planning isn't simply about optimizing one plant. Abbott Label needs visibility across the organization — and that is one of the reasons the company is moving forward with CERM. But John is also very clear that implementing an MIS isn't only a technology project. It's a people project. Abbott Label has employees who have been with the company for more than 25 years. Introducing new processes means helping experienced people change familiar ways of working while bringing younger, digitally native employees into the same environment. The company has therefore spent considerable time preparing and educating its teams before the new system becomes part of everyday production. And that perhaps says quite a lot about John Abbott himself. He knows presses. He knows what they should sound like when they're running properly. He knows what operators and equipment are capable of. But as Abbott Label has grown, his job has increasingly become less about operating machines and more about creating the environment where other people can succeed. In this INKISH film, Morten B. Reitoft talks with John Abbott about family, leadership, five plants, RFID, flexible packaging, CERM, managing change, customer service, and why Abbott Label has built its business around one simple reality: Customers rarely call because they need something in six weeks. They call because they need it now.

Building Technology on Solid Legacy Yoji...

Yoji Otsuka is the General Manager, Sales for Screen Graphic Solutions. In this conversation, he speaks over his American name "Joe" that he also uses on his business card, but more importantly how Screen has become one of the leading and most prominent suppliers of Inkjet presses. Screen Graphic Solutions was founded in 1943, but has roots back to 1868 - so what did Screen do before producing Inkjet machines? Yoji "Joe" Otsuka explains that the legacy of Screen's products and services are important elements in why Screen has become so popular. As we mentioned on numerous occasions before - we LOVE the Conversations format where editor Morten Reitoft have a longer and always very friendly conversation with a guest. Building a Packaging Powerhouse Through ...

Paul Densley, Managing Director of Castle Color, shares his journey from the newspaper print industry to leading one of the UK’s most respected and technically advanced packaging companies. In this film, Paul talks openly about Castle Color’s philosophy of people, process, and technology, and how that mindset has shaped everything from investment decisions to customer relationships. He explains why Castle Color focuses on being an embedded supply partner, how continuous training and process understanding sit at the core of the business, and how technology is used to enhance people rather than replace them. The conversation goes deep into Castle Color’s expertise in fiber-based packaging, including cartons, advanced barrier coatings, and highly specialized blister card technologies that are guaranteed to seal. Paul outlines the company’s diverse customer base across food, healthcare, hygiene, personal care, and sporting goods, and explains why the type of packaging matters more than the size of the customer. Paul also reflects on Castle Color’s disciplined approach to machinery investment, including rigorous testing, supplier comparisons, and the long-term impact of choosing the right technology partner. He shares real-world experience of consolidating production onto fewer presses while increasing productivity, retaining and retraining staff, and building strong, long-term relationships with suppliers. Looking ahead, Paul discusses the future of fiber-based packaging, sustainability, and how Castle Color plans to continue pushing the boundaries of packaging technology and design over the next decade.

Building a Bigger Future Around Hybrid P...

Vinsak is becoming much more than Vinsak. At LOUPE Americas in Chicago, Pat McGrew catches up with Ranesh Bajaj to talk about the expanding Vinsak Group — including Rotatek, new technologies, new markets, and a much stronger push into North America. One of the technologies attracting attention is the Rotatek Universal 850. The 850 mm platform has been developed for packaging applications and combines technologies such as offset and flexo in a highly configurable architecture. Rotatek itself describes customization as a core part of its philosophy, with presses designed around individual customer requirements rather than a single fixed configuration. And that fits perfectly with Ranesh's view of hybrid printing. Why force one printing technology to do everything? Offset can deliver extremely strong graphics and CMYK reproduction. Flexo can add whites, coatings, and other functional layers. Gravure can bring metallic effects, lacquers, and specialist applications. Put the technologies together in the right configuration, and the press can be engineered around the product rather than forcing the product around the press. In-mold labels are another major focus. Vinsak and Rotatek see strong opportunities in IML as brands look for durable decoration, lower production costs, and packaging structures that can perform across applications ranging from food and household products to containers exposed to moisture and freezing conditions. The Universal platform is already being positioned across applications including in-mold labels, flexible packaging, folding cartons, and other packaging segments. But perhaps the bigger story is geographical. Vinsak already has a strong presence across India, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. North America is now becoming a major strategic focus. Ranesh explains that the company is building its own US organization, including service infrastructure, and expects to significantly expand the North American team. An important first step is already underway, with a large 12-unit, 34-inch press destined for a customer in the Philadelphia region. That local presence matters. Selling sophisticated, custom-engineered printing equipment into the US isn't simply about shipping a press from overseas. Customers need service, parts, technical expertise, and confidence that support will be available long after installation. And that is exactly what Vinsak intends to build. In this INKISH film, Pat talks with Ranesh Bajaj about the expanding Vinsak Group, Rotatek, hybrid production, in-mold labels, sustainability, custom engineering, and why North America is becoming an increasingly important part of the group's future. Because sometimes differentiation doesn't come from choosing between offset, flexo, or gravure. It comes from combining them.

Build the Printer You Need · Charles Ton...

What if an inkjet printer worked a little more like Lego? At LOUPE Americas in Chicago, Wayne Beckett meets Charles from Buskro to look at Argo — a new modular printing platform designed around a very different idea. Instead of building separate printers for every width, orientation, and application, Buskro has developed a system of individual Argo nodes that can be combined and reconfigured as production requires. Need 4.25 inches of full-color printing? Configure it that way. Need 8 inches of monochrome instead? Separate the modules and rearrange them. Want to print on the top and side of a box simultaneously? Reconfigure the same technology again. A controller can manage up to eight printheads, and multiple controllers can be chained together, enabling significantly larger and more complex configurations. The platform is powered by HP thermal inkjet technology, but much of what makes Argo different comes from Buskro itself. The company develops its electronics, software, mechanical design, metalwork, and manufacturing in-house — giving it the ability to design the complete architecture around modularity. And that also changes the economics. Instead of manufacturing dozens of different enclosures, electronics packages, and configurations, Buskro can use common components across multiple applications. For customers, the same principle means an investment can potentially be adapted when requirements change rather than replaced. Argo also represents an interesting evolution for Buskro. The Canadian company built much of its history around high-speed mailing and variable-data printing, where systems need to read, print, and verify information at very high speeds. Now that experience is being taken into packaging and end-of-line production. Argo can print at speeds of up to 3 meters per second, achieve greater throw distances than traditional systems, and be configured for different print orientations. Combined with Buskro's RFID read, write, and verification technology, the company sees opportunities to build increasingly modular production and fulfillment environments. In this INKISH film, Wayne talks with Charles about Argo, HP inkjet technology, modularity, RFID, packaging, high-speed variable data, and why Buskro is moving away from telling customers exactly what a printing system should look like. Their new philosophy is considerably simpler: Your printer. Your way.

Buddy Kramber & Erik Norman · The B...

Before drupa, INKISH had a LONG but exciting trip in the US, and on a cold (very) Saturday morning, we met up with Buddy Kramber (VP Operations, The Bernard Group) and Erik Norman (President, SwissQprint North America) for an interview about the acquisition of SwissQprint printers. The Bernard Group is one of the most amazing printing companies we have visited - and this was our second visit to Chanhassen-based printing- and much more. Six years ago, we saw an incredible automated company with incredible growth that has continued and, according to Kramber, will continue. Investing in SwissQprint along with the AGFA and EFI printers (as far as we remember), the SwissQprint adds a layer of gamut to the production as it can produce with special colors and superior quality. Interesting to see how customers also look at options that can only be produced on the SwissQprint printer.

Bruno Müller CEO Müller Martini

The interview features Morten B. Reitoft from INKISH speaking with Bruno Müller from Müller Martini about the significant transformations the company has undergone over the past 35 years. Bruno Müller discusses the evolution from his early days in the newspaper division to adapting to major shifts in the industry, particularly the decline in newspaper production and the rise of digital printing technologies. Bruno highlights the company's focus on listening to customer needs and adapting its culture, products, and strategies to market demands. He emphasizes the challenges of managing spare parts for older machines, which were not originally designed to last as long as they have. This has necessitated a shift in the company's approach to production, moving towards modular designs that use common components to streamline operations and reduce complexity. The interview also touches on the recent acquisition of Hunkeler, describing it as a strategic fit that complements Müller Martini's strengths and enhances its product offerings. Bruno Müller notes the importance of evolving business models in response to digital technology advancements, which is crucial for staying relevant and competitive in the printing industry.

Bruno Müller · CEO · Müller Martini...

In just a few months, the global digital print industry will once again meet in Lucerne, Switzerland, for Hunkeler Innovationdays 2027 — and Morten B. Reitoft catches up with Müller Martini CEO Bruno Müller for a preview of what visitors can expect. HID27 takes place February 22–25, 2027, and Bruno promises an event with all the major digital printing suppliers, leading finishing companies, new technologies and plenty of product announcements. The exhibition space is already close to sold out, underlining the unique position Hunkeler Innovationdays has developed within the industry. The theme for 2027 is imPRESSed — Impressed by Ideas. Empowered by Cooperation. Delivered by People. And perhaps that describes perfectly why Hunkeler Innovationdays is different. It is not only about seeing equipment running live, but about connecting technologies, companies and people in a compact environment where complete end-to-end digital production solutions can be experienced. Following Müller Martini's acquisition of Hunkeler, Morten also asks Bruno how it feels to become even more involved in organizing one of the industry's most respected events. Bruno explains that the intention is not to change what has made Innovationdays successful, but to strengthen the existing team and preserve the unique atmosphere that Hunkeler has built over many years. What originally started as a Hunkeler open house has developed into an international industry meeting point. The 2025 edition attracted around 6,800 visitors from 100 countries, and HID27 will again bring together printing, finishing, workflow and automation specialists from around the world. And INKISH will of course be there as well — including a new daily edition of our MAGS Innovationdays magazine throughout the event. Ideas, technology, cooperation and, most importantly, people. See you in Lucerne. Watch Morten B. Reitoft's conversation with Bruno Müller from Müller Martini and get ready for Hunkeler Innovationdays 2027.
