Buddy Kramber & Erik Norman · The B...

Before drupa, INKISH had a LONG but exciting trip in the US, and on a cold (very) Saturday morning, we met up with Buddy Kramber (VP Operations, The Bernard Group) and Erik Norman (President, SwissQprint North America) for an interview about the acquisition of SwissQprint printers. The Bernard Group is one of the most amazing printing companies we have visited - and this was our second visit to Chanhassen-based printing- and much more. Six years ago, we saw an incredible automated company with incredible growth that has continued and, according to Kramber, will continue. Investing in SwissQprint along with the AGFA and EFI printers (as far as we remember), the SwissQprint adds a layer of gamut to the production as it can produce with special colors and superior quality. Interesting to see how customers also look at options that can only be produced on the SwissQprint printer.

Bruno MĂŒller · CEO · MĂŒller Martini · Hu...

In this interview, CEO Bruno MĂŒller from MĂŒller Martini speaks with Editor-in-Chief Morten B. Reitoft about the vision that is the driving force within the company. In 2000, the faster roll-based digital printers entered the market and Bruno MĂŒller defined the vision of how to make machines that could do products of one. We, of course, ask if this isn't where we are now, and MĂŒller smiles and says it can still be much better - so dear printers and binders, more to expect in the future - excited :-)

Bruno Müller · CEO · MĂŒller Martini

The interview features Morten B. Reitoft from INKISH speaking with Bruno MĂŒller from MĂŒller Martini about the significant transformations the company has undergone over the past 35 years. Bruno MĂŒller discusses the evolution from his early days in the newspaper division to adapting to major shifts in the industry, particularly the decline in newspaper production and the rise of digital printing technologies. Bruno highlights the company's focus on listening to customer needs and adapting its culture, products, and strategies to market demands. He emphasizes the challenges of managing spare parts for older machines, which were not originally designed to last as long as they have. This has necessitated a shift in the company's approach to production, moving towards modular designs that use common components to streamline operations and reduce complexity. The interview also touches on the recent acquisition of Hunkeler, describing it as a strategic fit that complements MĂŒller Martini's strengths and enhances its product offerings. Bruno MĂŒller notes the importance of evolving business models in response to digital technology advancements, which is crucial for staying relevant and competitive in the printing industry.

Bruce F. Jacobsen · Bridgeport National ...

Books of one, way before that term was even invented. Over capacity on purpose, and with the intention of being the best, the largest, the fastest, and the strategy paid off. Bridgeport National Bindery is still binding books one, but today, with the newest and most innovative technology, and with a huge bindery, the company can produce pretty much everything. Everywhere in the plant, you see signs in multiple languages, also showing the many different cultures working side-by-side under one roof, but we are here to talk to Bruce F. Jacobsen. Despite his age, he knows pretty much all processes, and though he could stay home and enjoy his third age, he comes to work every day, and seeing him supporting workers on every station with his knowledge is a blast - but why not, enjoy the film we did?

Brodnax invests in Eagle Systems and mor...

What was supposed to be our California Cruising tour also took us to Dallas in Texas, and lucky us, as this allowed us to meet with Jim Singer from Brodnax21C. Brodnax is a General Commercial printing company with both digital and analog equipment. The company has specialized in trading cards and high-end printed products, and as they are an Eagle Systems customer, Mike King and Ellen Manning asked to stop by to see how they utilize the Eagle. And that was a great experience to see and understand why Jim and his team invested in cold foiling. Brodnax has also agreed to invest in a Landa Press in a new DURST vast format machine and has on order a new SCODIX 106 HD machine - and I understand from Jim Singer that even more signatures are on their way for more equipment. Efficiency and a firm belief in the future are what I see when visiting Brodnax - Super lovely people, and super great to see print striving.

Brian Euclide · Over The Skype · TEC Mai...

TEC Mailing Solutions is, according to Brian Euclide, the only provider in the US, able to provide mail data-cleaning, and other services related to addresses in the US, online. Not only online but also via an intensive set of API's that enable their customers to integrate their own systems. Being a cloud-based supplier, you may have seen both Brian Euclide and his colleague Scott Eganhouse at various trade-shows where it's become kind of trade-mark to see the company's employees dressed in cloud-patterned suites. Great gimmick. Great guys, and well - sounds like their solutions could be interesting for more to dig into. As with all our 'Over the Skype' interviews, quality is limited to bandwidth, web-cams, and ability to literally LIVE mix the conversations. However, it works, and with Over the Skype, we will bring you more than 20 exciting people, and angles on the industry as it is right now. Enjoy!

Brian Coombs · Director, Product Plannin...

At Printing United Expo in Orlando, Wayne from INKISH speaks with Brian Coombs, Director of Business Strategy at Canon, about the company’s strong presence at the event and the world debut of the new Colorado XL. Brian explains that the show has exceeded expectations. “The response has been tremendous,” he says. “We were told there might be more than 28,000 attendees, making this one of the biggest Printing United events ever. The interest and engagement have been fantastic—it’s a great opportunity to spend time with customers and show them what’s new.” Canon’s booth—the largest at the show—centers around the launch of the Colorado XL, a 3.2-meter hybrid printer that marks a major step forward for the company. “We officially announced the product at the end of September, but this is the first time it’s being shown publicly,” Brian explains. “This isn’t just a larger Colorado M series—it’s been completely re-engineered for higher-volume production, greater durability, and broader applications.” The Colorado XL features Canon’s proven UVgel technology, now reformulated to print on both flexible and rigid materials. “The UVgel concept remains the same,” Brian says, “but we’ve optimized the chemistry for hybrid use so it can deliver consistent quality across substrates.” A key strength of the new system is its modularity. “We’re offering two main versions,” Brian explains. “The XL7R is roll-to-roll only, while the XL7H—the one we’re showing here—is hybrid. The real advantage is that customers can start simple and scale up. They can add features like white ink, dual-roll capability, or hybrid tables later on. Some upgrades can even be done remotely via license activation. It’s designed to grow with the business.” Feedback from visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. “We’ve had constant traffic at the booth,” Brian says. “People are excited about the flexibility and performance. It’s the most customizable large-format platform we’ve built so far.” Asked about orders, he adds, “This demo unit is for internal use, but yes—we’ve already received multiple orders. The interest level has been excellent.” Reflecting on the event itself, Brian notes the strong sense of momentum. “Having everything in one hall keeps the energy up,” he says. “It’s been a great experience here in Orlando, and I’m confident that next year in Las Vegas will be just as successful.”

Brent Pietrzak · CEO & President · ...

At Printing United 2025, Pat McGrew from INKISH sits down with Brent, CEO and President of CAI Graphic Communications. This newly unified organization brings together CI and EPS under one brand. Brent explains that both companies were historically strong in manufacturing software — CAI in process and discrete manufacturing, and EPS in print manufacturing. “When you look across those verticals, the end markets differ, but the challenges are very similar,” he says. “By bringing the two together, we’ve created the scale and expertise needed to accelerate growth.” He outlines a clear vision: the company aims to double in size over the next four years, driven by organic growth, technology investments, and strategic acquisitions. Customers, Brent notes, can expect faster response times, broader support coverage, and increased investment in current solutions. “We’re already seeing improvements in communication and customer responsiveness,” he adds. Discussing the print industry specifically, Brent emphasizes that print is fundamentally a manufacturing environment, and software remains key to its evolution. “The challenges print businesses face aren’t going away,” he says. “That’s why this will continue to be a steady, predictable growth story.” When asked about the popular Connect event, Brent confirms it will continue. “I’m only 45 days in,” he says with a smile, “but I’ll definitely be there in February. From everything I’ve heard, it’s a great event — and one we expect to support going forward.” He closes on a confident note: “For our customers and partners, CI Graphic Communications will continue to be a business you can count on.”

Branding vs. Marketing · Morten B. Reito...

In this session, Morten B. Reitoft explains his view on branding vs. marketing and why branding is the better option for CapEx investments. The logic is simple - PSPs and Converters don't buy anything based on a single point of communication, so why should a conversion lead to anything relevant - and how many times should the same lead be generated over a period of 3-6-12 months before it reverts into a REAL conversion - namely the sales? In the session, Morten B. Reitoft also explains how he sees the role of marketing in a company - regardless of whether it's with an OEM or a PSP. You don't have to agree!
