At Printing United 2025 in Orlando, Morten B. Reitoft from INKISH meets Errol Moebius, President and CEO of IST America, for a conversation about UV curing, innovation, and the companyâs evolving role in the print and packaging markets.
Errol, who has led IST America for several years, explains how the companyâs strength lies in its combination of engineering depth, flexibility, and a broad product range. âIST has a great history and a very wide portfolio,â he says. âWe work across multiple markets â sheetfed, flexo, digital, and industrial â which allows us to provide complete curing solutions tailored to every customerâs needs.â
He clarifies a common misconception in the industry: âPeople often think UV is just UV, but thatâs not true. The technology you choose depends entirely on the application. Some jobs are best suited to mercury, others to LED, and weâre increasingly using excimer systems for advanced surfaces and special substrates. Itâs never a one-size-fits-all scenario.â
Errol explains that ISTâs approach is consultative rather than transactional. âWeâre not just selling lamps â weâre providing engineered solutions,â he says. âFrom compact LED modules for digital presses to large-scale mercury curing systems, we focus on what fits the customerâs process today and what will serve them in the future. Flexibility and long-term value are key.â
A major part of that value, he notes, comes from Smart Cure, ISTâs intelligent control and monitoring platform. âSmart Cure gives real-time insights into power consumption, temperature, and lamp performance,â Errol explains. âIt automatically adjusts output to optimize curing efficiency. For example, if full power isnât needed, the system runs at 70% instead of 100% â saving energy, reducing heat, and extending lamp life.â
That data-driven control, he continues, is not just about efficiency but sustainability. âEnergy costs keep rising, and customers are more focused on sustainable production than ever. Smart Cure helps them cut operating costs, reduce waste, and achieve consistent performance â all without sacrificing quality.â
Asked how IST America differentiates itself in a competitive market, Errol points to reliability and integration. âEvery supplier brings something different, but IST stands out through engineering precision, global service, and deep OEM partnerships,â he says. âWe support our customers through consultation, testing, and long-term service â ensuring the system performs exactly as promised.â
He concludes on an optimistic note: âUV technology keeps evolving. Whether itâs mercury, LED, or excimer, our mission is to help printers and converters choose the right solution for their workflow â and make sure it runs efficiently, sustainably, and profitably.â
Morten smiles and thanks him for his insights. Errol replies with a grin, âAlways great to see you, Morten â and always great to talk about where this industry is heading.â
